Do dogs have to get used to trimmed nails?

serious question

get used to them? most dogs hate having their nails trimmed, I always had the vet do it on check ups.

i think it depends on the breed - some larger breed dogs (like border collies) will likely wear down their toenails on their own. :2 cents:

2 labs here they are lazy florida dogs and get their nails trimmed once every 2 months and they go for nightly walks to buff them down .. the normally do well after each trimming

Yes they do!

Ask your vet, you'll see...

Buddy got his trimmed for the first time today and has been slipping like he is drunk or something. It dawned on me that it could be that he isn't used to the grip or lack thereof.

You're probably correct on that. Trim them more regularly and that won't happen in future.

I bought one of those nail trimmer tools to do my dog's nails with, like the ones the vets use. Cost about thirty bucks but it does a nice job.

alot of dogs will keep them down on their own if they walk/run on cement/sidewalks a lot. I would ask your vet for sure and let them know he wasn't liking it tonight.

if you start when their young and make a fun time, it will be easy to do. My two bostons are fine with it , my big mutt hates its a test of wills.
