Anyone own a Motor Home?

I'm thinking of buying an old destroyed motor home for Burning Man and other festivals. But I know nothing about cars. Any advice or horror stories?

That sounds like fun. I would be scared to drive anything bigger than my Honda. LOL

:)

I made the mistake of purchasing one to pacify my now ex-wife. Too much maintenance and really bad gas mileage.

It's probably better to purchase a used airstream trailer and then tow it with a used pickup.

Another cool idea is to buy a mini camper that fits in the bed of a pickup truck.

I went to Lightning In a Bottle last weekend and it was amazing.

I had a 32ft Southwind I sold a few years ago. Buy a used one, they depreciate worse than boats.

I have a 30-Foot Winnebago and I love it but. if I had to do it again I would buy a used airstream trailer.

I have a 33ft fleetwood pace arrow. We take it out with the kids in the summer.

Lots of fun and room :)

ytcracker 05-16-2007 06:07 PM

id love to go to burning man with you sometime

notabook 05-16-2007 06:08 PM

I bought a fleetwood a while back... don't use it enough to justify it at all. And now with gas prices what they are I use it even less LOL. It was novel at first but after you fill up the gas tank for the first time it is really a kick in the nuts.

good advice.

airstream is one of the few trailers that do hold their value.

well made, and last forever.

You shouldn't have bought an American one ;)

ztik 05-16-2007 08:05 PM

If you want something thats really cheap on parts get one of the many models that have ford of chevy engines in them. The ones that bassicly look like the front of a van. Super cheap to fix anything if you are going old. My family has had 5 dif ones while growing up.

And yeah, expect bad gas milage, 5-10 miles per gallon

I highly doubt any 32' motorhome made anywhere is going to get great mileage

Karupted Charles 05-16-2007 10:18 PM

I got an old beater 82 MRV 30ft I think. Was fun for a few trips but it can get old quick when having to do maintenance. A trailer makes alot more sense unless you have kids which is the only reason we had ours.

I would go look on craigslist, hope you have a big box of cash for the gas lol
