i was once hitchhiking through neslon bc with a friend when this crazy old hippie popped out of the bushes near the overpass. he gave us a couple oranges, while we all sat down and smoked a bowl. i was broke and hungry as fuck, so i sucked that orange down with ease. haflway through the guy tells us he plucked them from the dumpster behind the grocery store. at first i was like "oh fuck", but then i realizd that there was in fact nothing wrong with that orange at all, an it did have a peel. so whatever!
i'm glad that crazy drifter hooked me up with a perfectly good orange that otherwise would have went to waste now. it made me realize just how much perfectly good food we put to waste while thousands starve. i've seen the bottom of the barrel a couple times. i think more people should lose themselves as a learning experience. i'm glad i did. i appreciate what i do have in life that much more, and i've learnt some of the most important lessons in life this way. some of the wisest and most intelligent people i've ever met are hiding at soup kitchens and living behind dumpsters...
i'd rather sit and have a smoke with some street kids or listen to some whacked out old bum give me his views on life, than wine and dine with some rich asshole any day of the week. don't get me wrong, i don't walk around ating out of garbage cans, i live quite comfortably now, but to someone who is willing to eat out of that garbage can, it could be the difference between life and death...Last edited by Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life; 05-16-2007, 08:09 PM.Comment

I have scabbed, begged, eaten from garbage cans, and atm, have built my world on the very notion of trash. The 10 or so pc's i have found on council trash nights (twice a year) i have rebuilt and in the last 6 months have really aided in me having a real go at the very thing I have been passionate about all my life... I can't say that I have made it, but i do have a string of domain names that are worth more than the $8 reg fee and 4 new sites I have been working very hard on without the motivation of seeing a result just yet. My beleif is greater than ever, because enlightenment is so gratefully accepted in a world of darkness.Comment

Technically speaking, yes. I have found a lot of shit people threw away that was easily fixable, which I resold on eBay. Food was then bought with that money -- money that came directly from dumpster diving -- so technically speaking, yes.

the best dumpster diving is right at the end of the year on a large university campus. when all the students are moving out of res, diving is supreme. you wouldn't blieve some of the shit people throw away when they're in a rush to get the fuck out of there. especially electronics...Comment

My problem with this is that their views on life is what put them in the street and hungry. I would much rather sit down and have a good meal with someone that is successful and can give me some insights into how I can make more money and be happier with my life.
I never will under stand the whole mentality that poor is more honest and real than rich.
If you are one of those people that really is wanting to be nice to the world, get bloody stinking rich! Then you will be in a position to make a difference.Comment
