RAID problem. Anyone know anything about RAID? (FACE to ASS PIC)

I figured the only way I was going to get thread views on this was to post a pic. So here's my problem. I have a RAID setup, that's 5+0 I think. I tuses like 8 HD's for the RAID and I believe 1 as the OS and for startup. I THINK that disk has crashed. I get errors on start up all the time, and now I don't get shit. It just hangs on startup.

I've removed that disk and still nothing loads, so I think that disk is the one with the OS on it.

My question is... how do I install a new HD and reload the OS without formatting the RAID? OR... OR... would I be able to install an HD with an OS already on it?

Anyone know shit about RAID? I had PCClub build the RAID setup for me.

Thanks.

oh, and here's the pic.

I feel like Justin right now... "I can't see shit"

you installed the OS on one of the 8 drives used in the raid?

if its hardware raid you should be able to get into a raid setup during boot and get info on which disk has failed, etc...

what raid level is it? 1,5,10? hardware or software raid?

never heard of 5+0 im assuming you had windows on one hd the one that crashed and then you had your data on a raid 5 array ?

If this is the case just replace the hd that had windows and reinstall windows on the new drive your data should all be there.

lmfao!!..

I meant that there are 9 HD's in the system. 8 are RAID 5 + 0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID#Nested_RAID_levels and then there is 1 that I believe holds the OS. As far as I know the other 8 HD's (RAID) are for storage. I don't think they have the OS on them.

This will hopefully clear things up.

NOW, does anyone know what to do? :)

yeah, reinstall the OS on a new drive and mount the raid again :)

dont touch the raid drives until you get a new os in there... but like i said if you reboot your machine, your raid card should give you an option of going into the raid setup... from there you can run diagnostics and find out if your raid has a problem as well

Tical, will I need to install the OS in a different setup? Like on a secondary machine? Or can I pull the bad drive (which is an IDE while the 8 RAID hd's are SATA) and just swap it out right there?

When I install the new OS, on the new HD will it format and wipe out the RAID?

you should have set up two raids with 2 cards. one controls the os.

however, i get errors all the time and i fixed it every time.
1 thing to look for is how many drives you have on each leg of the power supply.
2, check your cables and power to the drives.
3, try just booting the one with the os on it.
