Making Fonts Appear on a Users System

ok so you make an html doc and at the top of the page it says "yeah check out my html doc" and the font for that text is on that the user doesnt have on their computer... so how do you make it display as the original font you chose when they view it?

thanks :thumbsup

if they dont have the font on their system then you dont, you are SOL, only way is not to use text and use an image, this is basic 1stgrade web 101

offer a download of the font on the page.. if they care enough to view it in your font.. they will download and plug it in

no way? there has got to be a way to do this lol like uploading the font file and making the code draw the font display from there instead of the users comp.... right?

You're asking this on GFY. What the fuck did you expect?

sumphatpimp 05-14-2007 08:24 PM

make a graphic with photshop or some other graphics program.

Mutt 05-14-2007 08:26 PM

you can embed a font with CSS - not sure how a surfers security settings effect it though cuz you are forcing them to download a TTF file.

You can use GD with PHP to create images on the fly with the font and text you want...

Heres a link I found on google in the past minute:

finally the intelligent people came out... interesting that through the use of code i CAN in fact make things appear on users screens... take that 1971 skeptical computer guy... take that.

Tom_PM 05-14-2007 08:37 PM

You can, but wow I flipped through that tutorial and it looks like stone knives and bearskins (if you get the star trek reference)

My my aren't we a bit pissy. Anyways I think that atricle is a bit OLD.

"Surprise, surprise: Netscape and Microsoft each has its own technology for embedding fonts! And they're different! Sad but true.
