How is living well the best revenge?
 

There's a saying "living well is the best revenge", or something similar to that effect, but that is ONLY if the person you are trying to revenge on is AWARE of the fact that you are living well.

If you are no longer in contact with this person and don't associate with their circle of friends/acquaintances (so they can't find out through word of mouth), then how would they be able to SEE that you are living well, doing well, are successful, etc?

Is it really "revenge" if you yourself are aware of the fact that you are doing well but if the person who spited you in the past doesn't?

So in essence, this saying is inaccurate, because living well is only the best revenge IF the person you are trying to revenge on is AWARE of the fact that you are living well.

I think the point is that you have really only gotten over the slight if you aren't still so obsessed with the other person that you still care about what they think about your situation. Actually getting revenge through spitework or even through showing the other person that you are doing well is an inferior end result to simply living your life as best as possible without the burden of caring about someone else's opinion or showing off.

It has nothing to do with what the other person knows or doesn't know. It's about YOU and what YOU think. To build a life for oneself where you can truly live well and be happy really IS the best revenge, on everything in life that serves to piss most people off.


But there's a good case to be made for buying the company where that asshole who slieghted you works at, becoming his boss and then firing his sorry ass.

Or banging his girlfriend.
