May 15th is gas out day....

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on MAY 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil company?s pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I can?t see why you wouldn't) tell everyone you know. Let's tell the oil companies :321GFY

SykkBoy 05-14-2007 10:32 AM

I'm not going to get very far on my 46 mile roundtrip commute by avoiding the gas pump ;-)

thebestdamnsexshow 05-14-2007 10:32 AM

sounds like a plan to me..

royaljelly2 05-14-2007 10:33 AM

Good idea :)
Is this in the states only?

pornguy 05-14-2007 10:33 AM

It wont change a thing.

Jimmy Rock 05-14-2007 10:36 AM

I'm on it!! also a good idea to sart staying away from the Major companies I.E. Exxon, Shell, and so on

mikesouth 05-14-2007 10:37 AM

Its a retarded idea and has been discredited over and over and over

fusionx 05-14-2007 10:42 AM

Stupid idea. You hurt the gas station owners more than anything else. Oil company execs laugh when the hear this - you'll just double the sales the following day.

Cut back on driving - that hurts the oil companies.

How about parking your car for a day? Never happen, will it :/

Yeah, I agree there. I'm going to do it just to be a team player.

baddog 05-14-2007 10:43 AM

I can't believe intelligent people are still believing this bullshit.

OY 05-14-2007 10:50 AM

On another note, if you fast one day a week for the rest of your life (lets say for arguments sake 50 years) you will have fasted for 2600 days. You will see a difference in your health for sure.

Anyways...

very true

JP-pornshooter 05-14-2007 10:54 AM

i thought i heard that may 19th is "bike to work day", that might actually do more damage..there is also the "dont buy at exxon, shell or mobil" stations as these large gasoline sellers "control" the market.. if many could agree, it might work to some extent.

uvort 05-14-2007 10:55 AM

People still drive to work? I thought everyone worked from home these days.

No, it wouldn't

Dollarmansteve 05-14-2007 10:59 AM

...and for everyone who thinks this is a good idea:

I have a great investment for you - all you gotta do is give me $5000, and as soon as you present this same offer to 3 other people, I'll give you $10,000 back!!! wow! 100% return just for referring your friends into my amazing investment fund!

Dollarmansteve 05-14-2007 11:05 AM

...and the headline in the paper on May 17th will be:

"May 16th - highest gasoline sales in United States in History"

lol.. man, the stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.. so much misdirected effort.

Pete-KT 05-14-2007 11:07 AM

so if noone puts gas tomo but on Wed they put double the gas, the companies will be laughing at you for being stupid, This is the stupidest thing i have ever heard

stev0 05-14-2007 11:08 AM

Stupid idea... it won't cost the oil industry anything, everyone thinks it's a great idea but who is actually going to do something about it and drive less?

You're going to drive the exact same amount, therefore buying the same amount of gasoline. You think the companies care which day they make their profits on?

1. There was no nationwide "gas out" in 1997. There was one in 1999, but it didn't cause gas prices to drop 30 cents per gallon overnight. In fact, it didn't cause them to drop at all. Despite the popularity of the email campaign, the event itself attracted scant participation and was completely ineffectual.

If i was you I would try to have this thread removed. It shows a real lack of intelligent to think this would work. you Rep a big company and I'm sure they want people to think they hire smart people .. ;)

Marketing Yoda 05-14-2007 11:37 AM

I have an even better, CRAZIER idea:

RIDE A FUCKING BIKE

Cassie 05-14-2007 11:40 AM

sorry, i travel 150mi round trip a day. my car needs gas when i get home today.

shekinah 05-14-2007 11:43 AM

Nice, I saved 3 containers in the house:)

Jman 05-14-2007 11:44 AM

I'm driving up to Toronto so... you know where you can shove your Gas Day ;-)

Tom_PM 05-14-2007 11:45 AM

I've only gassed up twice in the last 3 years or so, lol. I'm making up for a lot of ya' who need to drive a lot :) 2 miles a week max, and 32 mpg = huge savings.

sumphatpimp 05-14-2007 11:54 AM

congratulations!
that email you got about don't by gas on May 15 is a trojan.
hope you will be happy together.

human engineering is a fun subject.
LOL

RedShoe 05-14-2007 12:07 PM

It's good to see topbucks reps at least research shit before posting spam emails here on gfy.

I like the fact that there wasn't even a thought as to all the peoplel that will fill up on 14th or 16th. stupid.

Do what I do, work from home. The only time I leave the house is to get toilet paper. I'm thinking of putting in one of them european ass washers, then I'd never have to leave.

Exactly. People will just buy twice as much the next day.
This completely shows the attitude of Americans of this subject.
We Need to decrease our dependence on foreign oil. Period.

Not some worthless trinket of a protest, I mean some real action.
We are at a critical point and look at the shit we do to just waste shit.

Racing, just to name one. How stupid is our protest, when the commercials about new forms of energy, hybrid cars, and such are during a fucking NASCAR race. Wasting gas for amusement! I mean come on.

We need to change our attitude, or they will always have us by the balls.
Too many people just don't give a fuck, and will never give up their 7 passenger Escalades, and Tahoes because it looks cool.

:2 cents:

Tom_PM 05-14-2007 12:14 PM

NASCAR cars get around 4.5 miles per gallon. They are switching to UNleaded finally in 2008.

fetishblog 05-14-2007 12:19 PM

Like 73,000,000 people are going to do this. Get a clue. I'm not going to do it. Not only because I don't give a shit and I'll pay $5/gallon or $10/gallon, but also because I get reimbursed for my gas expenses. =)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot: http://www.snopes.com/politics/gasoline/nogas.asp :pimp

CheneyRumsfeld 05-14-2007 12:20 PM

We have and will always depend on oil from other countries. The truth is we need oil to run our country. Not only cars, but the trucks that supply us with everything from condoms to pink fuzzy slippers. I'm pretty sure that an 18 wheeler uses more gas in one week than my car uses in one year. (I'm rarely leave the house and it's rare that I fill up more than once every other month.)

Oddly enough, I just drove a Ford Escape Hybrid for the first time this past weekend. Very nice. I mean, it was a four banger to begin with but the power was decent and the motor never went on once. I drove all the way to store and back. It's silent and very odd; It was like I was in Stealth Mode or something. The batteries are good for 80k miles or so, and the Hybrid costs only $3k more than the non Hybrid version.

Geez!:1orglaugh :1orglaugh :(

notabook 05-14-2007 12:30 PM

It doesn't matter if everyone in the United States stopped buying gas on the 15th. That's how stupid a "1-day boycott" is. You have to stop using things that use gas PERIOD. You have to go for months and months to have a successful boycott (and sometimes YEARS). One day won't do shit, and I don't see how *anyone* could think otherwise. Seriously, even retarded people are not that retarded.. :upsidedow Seriously... it'd be like me not eating a piece of cake for a day and expecting to lose forty pounds the next day.

Want real ways to "hurt" the oil industry? Want to save money in the process? CARPOOL whenever possible. USE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION whenever possible. USE A BICYCLE whenever possible. Not only will it save you some green, it'll also help the environment.

exactly. how about taking public transportation, carpooling or riding your bike to work on May 15th instead.

if anything, i wouldnt be suprised if gas stations jacked up their prices today and on the 16th because theyve heard of this and are waiting for people to fill up on either day.

dumbest internet spam ever.... from cnn's money page

Quote:

The promise of depriving oil companies of $3 billion dollars a day assumes all the Internet users in the country would normally fill up their cars on the same day, which is of course absurd.

And what about the 30 cent-a-gallon price drop, which the e-mail claims happened during a similar boycott back in April 1997?

"It's absolute urban legend," said Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, which tracks gasoline prices for the motorist organization AAA. "There was no such drop."

Kloza said he looked into prices for all of April, 1997, and said for the entire month they didn't move by more than a penny.

The reason prices didn't budge is that people will still use the same amount of gasoline for the week or month. The Energy Information Administration, which tracks gasoline demand every week, said they've never observed a drop in demand for any week in the spring that could be associated with the boycott.

jalami 05-14-2007 01:20 PM

Of course you can piss off gas companies even MORE by living less than a mile from the office like yours truly. Now that's stickin' it to 'em!

EBORG9 05-14-2007 01:33 PM

How about if we stop trading the fucking stock?

Make it illegal for a foreign held entity, or a company who's operations are mainly based on foreign soil, to contribute to a Presidential Campaign?

Stop using U.S. ships to protect and patrol shipments out of the Persian Gulf?

Do you know how much it costs to keep the shipping lanes open and safe in that region? and this is how they repay us, by sticking it to us on the price.?

Fuck YOU!
We should be paying the least of everyone in the world, for ,without our Air Craft Carrier Groups, Battle Ships, and the sacrifice of OUR Navy Personnel..
NOBODY IN THE FUCKING WORLD WOULD EVER GET A SHIPMENT AGAIN, AND THE FUCKING GULF WOULD BE A CONSTANT ENVIRONMENTAL BON FIRE DISASTER!

Don't get me started.

EBORG9 05-14-2007 01:38 PM

I don't see Saudi Arabia posting up their Navy to protect their own fucking shipments..oh yeah they don't have a navy!
and what about the shipping companies that actually own the Super Tankers that do the transport, those are largely Japanese, Korean, Greek, , Spanish, and other countries.
Where the fuck is their escort at?

Ok I'm done now.

*mumbles quietly*, "mother fuckers!"

Oh and China is supposed to be this great new market that is consuming all this oil.
"Hey, you wanna send a troop or two, maybe a ship or something...this shit cost money to even get to you!"

EBORG9 05-14-2007 02:24 PM

We have been protecting the oil shipments out of that region for years for the good of the WORLD economy, and nobody, NOBODY, gives a shit, or offers to help out.
All I hear is "the U.S. this", and "arrogant policies" that. and then they get in their Mini Cooper, or on their high speed train, and giggle at their moral superiority over the United States.
The whole thing pisses me off.
Our Navy is, and has been directly responsible for there not being a Global Economic Castastrophy, that would set most Western Countries back 50 years, and most other countries back to the stone age, (CHINA! JAPAN! THE E.U.!)
Yet, we can't get a break on a few barrels.
I say we just start taking the shit and escorting it all right to our east coast ports.
Fuck everyone else! Let them find their own source,

(OK, now I am really done, back to our regularly scheduled programing)
