Has CamCrush zapped you for $2?

Although I have been a NastyDollars affiliate for some time, I recently started taking a close look at their CamCrush site. To better understand what a customer experiences, I did the free registration sign-up yesterday. They require a credit card for age validation. Now, in going through the free sign-up, their webpages stated clearly there would be $0.00 charged to my card. And, they stated this at least twice. Today, I'm seeing a $2.00 charge on this card which I easily traced back to CamCrush. Has anyone else experienced this? Do they try to sneak a small charge past everyone who registers for "free"?

Was this an actual posted charge? Or simply an authorization?

Many places will attempt an authorization on credit cards to ensure the card is valid and has funds. After a couple of days, the authorization drops off and frees the funds.

What KK said. If you just recently did this, it was likely a small authorization fee, hotels do the same thing. You should be receiving a credit back for the $2.

I actually used my VISA debit card, and it's showing as a pending charge.
Since we're into the weekend, I won't know for sure until Monday night when my bank updates accounts if it's going through. But, at this point, it doesn't look like an authorization test. It looks like a real charge. Additionally, I've signed up for other Net services where a valid credit card was needed. In those cases, I was never charged anything... just as promised.

many sites charge a fee for CC verification but you should receive the money back in a few days

A pending charge is the same thing as an authorization.

When anyone charges your card, it firsts shows as an authorization. Once the merchant deposits the transaction, it becomes a posted charge. If they don't deposit the transaction, it'll drop off in a couple of days. There's no way to tell just by looking at a charge if it'll post or not.

Oh, and just in case you didn't bother to read the terms and conditions on Camcrush when you made the charge, here they are:

"Moreover, a nominal onetime application of a two dollar ($2 USD) transaction or "authorization" hold is applied to your credit card upon initial enrollment, which CAM CRUSH uses to confirm the integrity of your account information. This is not a Charge and will automatically be released per your card issuers discretion and policy."

Next time, try poking around before making baseless accusations.

This is common practice both online and offline. Like Sly said, hotels will do this, as will car rental agencies.
