So, tonight is Eurovision..who is going to watch?

It is dumb, it is stupid, more often than not it is down right absurd and has nothing at all to do with real music. Yet, I will watch if only as a form of car crash entertainment and for Terry Wogan.

So, who will be watching this year (we usually get a pretty good bitch thread going) as TGF's home country brings us crap music from across Europe.

Oh and btw, let me be the first to say that the UK entry brings new meaning to the word 'gay'.

Jakke PNG 05-12-2007 06:13 AM

I ain't watching that crap. Last year was the first time I did in like a decade.. but that was worth it since Finland won. This year we're back to our totally, utterly shit music and probably last place.

divine116 05-12-2007 06:15 AM

What's the best thing to do to increase my sign ups?

Michael O 05-12-2007 06:15 AM

Its become a joke.
of the 28 countries in the semis 15 were from Eastern Europe.
9 of 10 teams that went through to the final were from Eastern Europe, its become a joke the last couple of years with neighboring countries voting for each other but this year it will be an even bigger joke.

My predictions.
An Eastern European country will win this year.
None of the "new" countries in Eurovision will give 8 points or higher to a country outside Eastern Europe.

Oh, trust me it can't be worse than ours. We had this whole song selection call in vote show and all the other acts other than this one had name recognition..the songs still weren't great but people like Justin Hawkins had a song. Yet, the people that called and voted just proved that the main people that watch Eurovision in the UK are gay men.

I have only lived here for 10 years (the year UK won actually) and it has always been a joke to me. I can't imagine living in a country where it was taken seriously.

We took it seriously when we won it a couple of years ago :D
I've watched it many times, drinking with friends and making fun :D

I don't take it seriously but I still watch it cause its always good for a laugh :)

mattz 05-12-2007 06:46 AM

yeah exactly...just a chance to laugh at other Europeans ...who doesn't need that now and then?

Do you get Terry Wogan's commentary where you are? I know some countries besides the UK take it...he makes it watchable.

Kind of hard to explain..if you are old enough think back to Star Search when they had singers on it competing. Now, think that each country in Europe (and some others like Israel..countries that are part of the Eurovision Tv Network) gets an entry. The songs are very crap it is one of those cases of being so bad that it has become an institution.

Part of the fun of these threads every year is how big they get and most of the Americans not having a clue what we are talking about.

BigPinPin 05-12-2007 07:07 AM

I can´t watch this crap. The music is horrible and the artists are even more...aaahhmmm..I don´t know what ! This whole contest is a perversion and musical rapture !

Jensen 05-12-2007 01:25 PM

ukraine to win... damn the songs sucks this year... gay dude commenting the show up here in norway today and he is loving it... yesus

Lee 05-12-2007 01:26 PM

You know what we could "borrow" ABBA from Sweden, get them to perform say Dancing Queen and still Macedonia would vote for Serbia, Latvia would vote for Lithuania, Moldova would vote for Russia etc etc...

In the meantime we would trail in somewhere like 16th out of 24 despite having the best ever act to perform at Eurovision come out of retirement.

At least Wogan makes it watchable, I usually skip the songs and tune in for Terry.

On a side note, go Ukraine. Ive had a bet on them as transvestites and assorted weirdos always seem to do well.

Star 69 05-12-2007 01:40 PM

I am watching it right now!!!

Ross 05-12-2007 01:42 PM

I have it on in the background while I'm working. My girlfriend is also in the office working on his final project for University this year. She's kinda watching it tho, I have my back to the TV.

Let me just say tho, some of these songs make me want to kill myself! No one should win this year.

Mr. Garibaldi 05-12-2007 01:43 PM

Im pissed DJ Bobo couldnt make it through semifinals...

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2007 02:10 PM

The voting is the best part anyway...agreed that this year has been really bad..very boring songs. Never thought I would miss the camp. Only in a year like this could the UK song not sound that bad. The Sweden song had a melody at least but too bad they stole it from "Where My Rosemary Goes".

You have to go for the Ukraine for atleast being the only one in it that was attempting to have fun...and he/she looks like Christopher Biggins.

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2007 02:13 PM

I do want to sacrifice the blonde in the pink dress.

Cash 05-12-2007 02:18 PM

Another BS song contest, other BS songs, it's all bullshit.

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2007 02:21 PM

I don't know anybody that wouldn't agree that it is BS...just traditional bs.

agreed...

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2007 02:36 PM

This is fun..no Western European countries anywhere near a chance.

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2007 02:37 PM

Israel has 'pushed the button'? ..ouch

Lee 05-12-2007 03:10 PM

The Eurovision is like an annual tour of Eastern European shitholes. At least when the cold war was on you had a proper vote.

Jensen 05-12-2007 03:15 PM

congrats to serbia... hated the song...

Sarah_Jayne 05-12-2007 03:18 PM

Well, that was even dumber than usual. Bring back the camp..no point otherwise.

I only remember Bucks Fizz ever winning it - and that's only because there was that tantalising skirt whip-off routine. Back in '81?

Lol...There was a joke during the contest: "If you wanna see how Harry Potter will look at 30 - look at Maria from Serbia"
Actually I would never give this song the first place and until now I don't understand, maybe I missed something? Or all the people in Europe read their prayers while listening the song? (Molitva is a prayer in English)

The UK has won a number of times but the last was Katrina from Katrina and the Waves back in 1997.

I thought she was a dead ringer for Velma from Scooby Doo.

Lykos 05-13-2007 03:30 AM

We won:)
