Great news!
A lot of you know that my dad has undergone nearly two years of cancer surgeries and treatments. In January he was told that the cancer had spread to his lungs and the outlook was not good.
We've spent the last eight months preparing our families for what looked like would be an awful end of the year, possibly our first Christmas without my father. At Internext in Miami, I was very depressed that my six year old son, while visiting his grandfather, witnessed a very emotional scene and started asking about death for the very first time. I just got this in my email this morning from my mother: Just wanted to let you know what we found out about Chuck's CT scan. The Doctor called him this morning and said he had good news. There is no sign of any cancer, and what they thought was cancer was just scar tissue. He said the radiation treatments must have done what it was supposed to do. The growth has not come back and there is no sign of any more cancer. The Doctor said he would do another CT scan in November and every three months for a year and if it doesn't come back in a year, he would probably be all right. I don't believe much in prayer but something must have helped. He was happier today than I have seen him is quite awhile. I want to publicly thank everyone who offered their support and prayers during the last year, and especially my crew and everyone at Internext that helped me get through a very tough few days. It means a lot to me to know I have friends who care. Steve Lightspeed |

That is wonderful news. It just goes to show miracles do happen. My 12 year old daughter Stephanie has a rare condition, three tumors we have been fighting since Birth. She has had numourous surgeries and they had told me her brain tumor was inoperable. We have specialists at Stanford who now can perform surgery. Her surgery is Oct.25th,2002. When I got the news she had to have the surgery I was so upset. Immediately after I found out she was rushed in an ambulance twice within a two week period. I thought I was going to loose it. My friends in this industry have been wonderful and have helped me get through some of these difficult times. I feel like I have a great big family who truly cares. Hopefully this can help her. I pray for a miracle too. Sometimes when things seem the worse a complete surprise will happen. It makes us stronger.Isn't it great to have so many people in your corner. Sharing your miracle gives me hope so thanks. Any good thoughts Stepahnie's way from everyone I really appreciate it and thanks to my friends too. You gave me hope Steve I know miracles do happen. |

That's great news! I hope the cancer does not show up in the future. And it's a good thing your son is asking questions instead of just not understanding what's going on.

Good things do happen to good people!! :thumbsup |
I don't usually post unless there is something directly business related that I want to cover. However after reading this post I was moved to include my experience.
As many of you are aware I didn't make it to the Miami show. I had found out the week of the show that my mom was going to have open heart surgery the Friday of the show. I asked my co-workers to let people know why I wasn't attending InterNext. Immediately upon finding out clients and friends alike started calling and leaving me messages. I could not believe the support and prayers that my family received from the webmaster community. My family and I were truly moved by the whole experience. My parents are very well aware of the industry that I am in and of course they have had their concerns, but after the outpouring of support they felt very good knowing that I was working with people that truly showed concern for others within their industry. I want to publicly thank all of you who took the time to call me and to place my family in your thoughts and prayers. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to call many of you my friends. I am pleased to say that my mom is doing wonderfully. She is back at home and back to her old ways. Steve, the news about your dad is amazing. I am very happy for you buddy! Thank you for the messages while in Miami. ;-) Thanks again to everyone, and sorry for the sappy message but I had to get it out! |

Steve,
I did not know that you went through these rough times. I am truly sorry. BUT This is the most fantastic news I have heard this year. Congratulations!!! I can not express the joy that I am feeling right now, and I am sure that yours is 1000 times bigger. Good luck my friend! |
Glad to hear it man!

Steve that's wonderful!
Just goes to show you that sometimes we need a big scare to make us stop and think about how short life is. I'm sure your family will spend future holidays together as well as any regular day of the week different than you might have otherwise. Kiss your loved ones guys! Again, great news Steve. |
That's awesome. I'm glad for you and your family.
Cheers, Matt |

Steve,
This is awesome news! I am so glad to hear this; great news doesn?t even start to describe it, :)) You?re a great friend and very strong, I?m sure your father is also. After a long period of trials and stress in a family, these kinds of situations only help to build families closer and stronger then they ever would have been. Congrats friend, we are all thinking about you. |
This is the best news one could ever get. Congratulations and all the best to you and your family :)
|
Steve, great news mate! :)
My mother passed away 6 years ago now. Cancer. Mean shit. I was glad to read that you are having those 3 month checkups and I would suggest NOT missing them and possibly changing them to every 2 months. Can be expensive, but the end result of course is worth it. Spend as much time with him as you can, your son too. I think you guys will have alot of good times ahead of you! Cheers! Smiley |
Steve and Sean - Glad to hear that things went well for both of your parents. I'm lucky to still have both of mine still and try to talk to them as often as possible. We get so caught up in our work that it is easy sometimes to forget how improtant our family can be. Things like this help to remind us and make us stronger and bring us closer together.
Doesn't mean I'd swap spit with ya guys though :winkwink: |
Steve,
Great news for you and your family and I'll keep you all in my thoughts. Crazy stuff out there in the world sometimes, but every once in a while things go totally in our favor in a way that wasn't even imagined. I'm glad to hear this news. :thumbsup Jak |
