This makes zero sense
So yeah, I have a Ralph's Club Card, because it comes down to the fact that I save 30-50% on my grocery shopping by using it. Even alcohol is cheaper, so why not.
Every once in a while they mail these "customer appreciation" coupons, "selected especially for you." I figure that they know exactly what I buy, so these specially selected coupons should probably have something I have purchased within the last 10 years or so, right? Not one damn thing. I mean, it should not be tough to notice that I have never purchased a canned vegetable, much less a Coca Cola product. I can't help but think that this modern technology could be used to actually generate additional sales rather than try to make the customer think they must have gotten someone else's mail. |
find someone else that has other coupons and swap them with him

That's a good point. Through the memberships they should be able to target deals and advertising to each customer individually. Although that would probably also cost them quite a bit of money to implement.

Unless the goal is to send out coupons they know won't be used. |

Every so often, I'll switch my Ralph's club cards with a random friend.
Just to mess with The Man. :thumbsup I've switched mine out about 6-or-so times now. Now you're telling me that all my scheming was for nothing? :( |
it would be a lot of time to do it individually.
i've never seen that before with any club shopping centre. |
by giving you coupons for products you have not yet bought...they might be trying to get you to uhhh experience new products such as coca cola and canned vegetables...no?
|
i dont think its so you keep buying the same products you already are, but to get you to try something new. the store is not going to make any more money if you go in an buy the same 27 things each week. however, if you add 2 new items to your list, then they win

They just don't feel like giving me a coupon for Bailey's, Kahlua, vodka or scotch |
You got the right mail and you received the right coupons based upon your shopping history and again yes, you are correct, they know exactly what you normally buy.
You're going to shop there for the things you normally buy and save 30+-% using the membership card but a lot of customers, myself included, shop different stores for different items. Since you don't "normally" buy can vegetables from them - it may be a price issue above and beyond your normal savings - thus the attempt to save you a little more and earn your business. |

I think that is probably why I would never do that myself. I can walk to Ralph's, so they have my business for life. |
