Dale Earnhardt Jr Leaving DEI .. Why is this a big deal?

I don't follow Nascar but it seems like a big deal that Dale Jr is leaving DEI and driving for a new team. What's the history? I'm too lazy to go find info and read about it. Just give me the cliff notes on this :winkwink:

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh marieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Digipimp 05-10-2007 08:25 AM

i guess since it was his fathers company and should be his thats a big deal to leave it

Tom_PM 05-10-2007 08:30 AM

He and his other driver, truex jr. will drive for his new team after the end of this season. Dale Jr. evidently has differences with his mother about DEI. There was some gossip a couple of months back about Dale complaining that she doesnt even come to races anymore and crap like that.

This leaked story could also just be a push to get her to realise it's time to change things up then he'd stay. Who knows.

TGVinny 05-10-2007 08:32 AM

It was a race team that his father started and he's leaving that's why it's a big deal. The dispute is actually between him and his STEP Mother, which the two of them haven't gotten along since his father's passing. Also, he doesn't think DEI is moving in the right direction. There was something about it briefly on FSN

northboy 05-10-2007 08:33 AM

it's a big deal for rednecks

unleashxxx 05-10-2007 08:34 AM

nascar sucks ass, who gives a flying fuck

hezochiah 05-10-2007 08:36 AM

Plus, he's the most popular driver in the sport so whenever someone like that becomes a "free agent" so to speak it will get a lot of coverage.

MikeVega 05-10-2007 08:39 AM

there is something odd about you yelling out my wifes name ....:1orglaugh mainly because she calls my youngest son Juicy Jr ...:Oh crap

Dale Jr. wanted majorty ownership of DEI. Teresa Earnhardt and the other principles of the company didn't want to give him what he wanted, so he left. i'd be pissed as hell if i were him. not only teresa not a blood family member, but it wass dale sr that built the company on his hardwork and it was Jr.'s popularity that kept it going once Sr passed away.

DEI won't be around competitively for very long.

MikeVega 05-10-2007 08:44 AM

OK .. i see .. I didn't realize that his father started that team. I knew he race for it and figured he had some ownership. So the Mother got the company and he wants a bigger roll in it other then just a well paid driver. It's a shame because i bet his new team will kill off his fathers in the long run.

justinsain 05-10-2007 08:59 AM

He's leaving the team that was started by his father and everyone assumed he would eventually take it over. His step mom had a different vision so he has decided to leave the " family business " and go off on his own. He is the biggest star in NASCAR, has the most fans by far and has the best sponsor. While he may not be the best driver out there the fact that he is leaving DEI is HUGE news for the NASCAR fans. He says he will still have Budweiser for his sponsor and will still drive a chevy but he doesn't know what new team he will drive for. Here's a few pics I've taken of Dale at the races.

That sucks .. His father must be rolling over. You know he built that company with the vision of his son taking his roll some day

hezochiah 05-10-2007 09:12 AM

I think something that may have happened too is that when Sr. passed away he probably didn't think at that time that Jr. was mature enough to own or run a team so he probably had it in his will that it went to his wife.

He still retains his ownership amount. No way would he walk away fully. He's just not going to drive for DEI.

Wasn't it his step-mother that put the kibosh on him using his fathers Black and Grey colours full time?

nah...for starters, richard childress racing owns the #3 and it had the contract with GM Goodwrench for sponsorship. so it was really never an option. alsom he didn't want to drive with the pressure of those colors. he never would've been able to fill Sr.'s shoes.

He and his dad were close, dad started the company for his son to take over for once he retired. He was teaching him the ropes if you will. Dad hit and wall and died, did not have a proper will, mom got full control of the company and won't let Dale JR have a majority piece as Dad was going to give him.

After trying and trying to do the right thing he does not want to live under step moms shadow. It's easier for him to start his own team and do it his own way, just as his dad did.

I'm not at all into NASCAR but my brother is a huge fan of it and a big fan of Dale Jr. He says the two main reasons he would leave are that Dale Sr. basically said he was building the company for his kids and then his wife (Dale's step-mom) took over after he died and basically shut the kids out. Also she got cheap. She won't put the money into the car that needs to be put into it so that it is competative week in and week out. Dale wants her to spend money and she doesn't want to. Dale wants to win and she wants to cash checks and apparently she doesn't see that winning will me more checks.

Isn't it kind of stupid for a racer not to have a proper will?

they will still make millions yearly just off earnhardt sr. merchandise alone..losing jr. is a major loss, but they'll save millions by not having to keep a car on the track :1orglaugh so everything will even out
