Will there be a "summer slowdown" this year?

As we approach the summer months, I'm sure we'll start seeing posts about the dreaded and legendary summer slowdown. Do you think we'll see one this year? What do you think will be different from years past?

Last year, I didn't really notice it as much.

What are you doing, if anything, to prepare for it? Do you even think about it?

It usually means 10% or so less sales for me... Solution, I work 10% more :) So no summer slowdown for me.

Summer slowdown, christmas slowdown, holiday slowdown, easter slowdown, if you believe in it you find a reason for a whole year slowdown...it's a myth created by webmasters who don't want to work in the summer.

you mean it can get worse???? holy fuck !

well between the rising cost of Gas, Milk, Smokes, etc I predict a record LOW in long distance traveling this summer season.

In Michigan: Gas is OVER $3.20 a gallon, Milk rose up to over $3.00 a gallon, and in some store my friggan smokes are $6.00 a pack.

Since a few years ago everyone around my area bought big ass trucks and SUV's I can't see them dumping too much gas in just to take a lil trip lol.

BUT at any rate I'm building building building marathon days, working till 9-10am then sleeping till 2pm and doing it all over again.

And Once I get everything done and shit I (OMG OMG) am gonna plan a few weeks off for the first time in 6 years to enjoy the fucking weather for once lol

I wonder if that lack of travelling will lead to an increase in people stayinghome and joining porn sites? hehe

You know you have been at the same message board to long when you read the title of a thread and go we just discussed this... no wait that was last spring.

ok, ok, I'm Canadian, and yes we get it hard from our government.
So, $3.2 a gallon makes me laugh.
we have
$1.10 / litre --- 1 gallon = 3.79 litres

= $4.17 / gallon. And that's the cheap stuff in Ontario.

:2 cents: :2 cents:

East coast hit around $1.25 / litre or so last week = $4.74 / gallon!!!

Sure am glad they don't charge me for waiting in Emerg at the hospital for 5-8 hours while I'm bleeding! They already get $3 for parking, next they'll want a rental fee for ass-in-chair time!! :thumbsup

I think I may want to be American soon! :pimp

haha, yeah, it is sort of an age old question...I remember it from back in the late 90's even...

I also asked about it on a couple other boards to gauge the different responses from different communities...

not true imo.

here is my hypothesis on this...

i believe a number of people who sign up for adult sites are college students, either living in the dorm or having their own apartment. once school lets out, they have to return home and fear browsing porn on their parents internet connection; hence the summer and xmas slow down.

not saying all people that sign up for porn are college kids, but thats what takes it down some % each year.

Ive seen this happen since 2002 for me. each summer starting around the end of May to the begining of September sales dropped a bit. Personally, this is when I like to roll out new sites because I konw if i can make it be successful during the summer months, it will rock all year round

madawgz 05-08-2007 11:28 AM

i hope sales dont slow down :)

Marshal 05-08-2007 12:51 PM

i'm sure there would be plenty of sales this summer! :)
that's why i'm going to vacation in a month! :upsidedow

Isn't that enough reason to stop puffing on cancer sticks? :1orglaugh

$2190 a year for a pack a day habbit... Use that savings and put it into alcohol (or a little vacation)! :1orglaugh

RawAlex 05-08-2007 01:45 PM

I think the answer is NO... I think the toolbars and scumware people have sucked so much money off the top of the business over the winter that nobody will notice a slowdown because we have been in a slowdown all year.

Yup, you also have a lot of kids home from school and often staying up later at night, so dad has less time to get his latest fix of naughty barely legal girls online.

Yep... well almost. You are certainly right about the impact of college students on traffic: traffic to free sites like TGP's in particular. Throw in people who browse at work (many of whom go on vacation during the summer) and you have the reason why the summer decline is the strongest.

The good news is that in my experience, the decrease in sales is much smaller than the decline in traffic, because so many in this group of surfers are confirmed freeloaders who never buy anything.

BTW those in this thread who talk about working harder through the summer have to be kidding. Anyone who wanted to minimize the impact of summer needed to be doing the work months ago and it should have been focused on sites and pages which don't simply give content away. By the time anything you do now starts to work, this summer at least will be about over...

Its a myth :)
