What should a good music site have ?

I need some ideas, if you were to start a social networking site built around music and small bands etc... what should the site have ?

Video uploads of their band so they can promote themselves.
music forum for all the different types of music, country, rap, rock, etc.
latest news, music related ofcourse.
upcoming events for your area
concert tickets

what would be a cool feature that another site has or doesn't have that they should have?

feedback appreciated.

Are you going to do all music? It's a very big undertaking to keep up with every genre, everyday.
But you should be able to buy the music.

buy the music ? not sure what you talking about. I was thinking along the lines of a social networking site that focuses just on music. What features should it have ?

I think eborg means that the bands should be able to sell their music via the social network. Kinda like how you can buy ringtones for 99c, a means to download and buy music and split the revenue between the artist and the social network. Best of luck with it.

I guess i was thinking of the smaller ones who would release a song for free to get some self promotion, link back to their site where they try to sell the CD or get you to go t o their next gig. etc... I hadn't thought about a pay per download feature, good idea but I think a little more work than I would like to do especially right out the box. but thanks for the feedback.

Yes that all works fine, but you can set up a player to play free tracks, and link them to a payment system very easily, or...many independent artists have their stuff on itunes, and you can sign up with their aff program.
Here is a link that may be helpful:
I'm just saying if you capture the audience, you may as well let them purchase without sending them to another site.
You definitely want to use Word Press, they have a ton of options and plug ins that support independent musicians, audio and video podcasting, etc.

I think it's a great idea. I'm doing something similar myself, but centered on Dance/Electronica music.
