Question for people that work out.

I'm back in action after getting my back sorted out thanks to DaveMSM and afte r spending 2 weeks working out from home I decided to hit the gym today.

I went at 5pm and got back home at 7pm.

My question is what time of the day is best to workout?

Morning, afternoon or nights. Does it matter?

It depends on the person. I personally prefer to work out in the morning cause I feel I have the most energy then. Some peoples schedueles are different so they work out at different times.

I find if I try to work out in the evenings I have less energy and generally get a less of a workout then if I went during the day.

i like at night....no distractions...just workout hard..can stay as late as u want...easy to fall asleep since u wear urself out

aico 05-07-2007 04:41 PM

When your gym is less crowded, and when the idiots with their fancy outfits & bluetooth ear pieces who do nothing but talk and try to hook up have left.

NTSS 05-07-2007 04:42 PM

2 a days...morning and night

Jman 05-07-2007 04:43 PM

I'm gonna try different times in the next week and see where I feel more compfortable. So far afternoon workout was pretty good I had a good energy level.

My question is what time of the day is best to workout?.......

Morning, noon or night - it all depends on you :thumbsup

KRosh 05-07-2007 04:51 PM

JMAn

what is up?

The best time of day to work out is in the morning before a meal. When you sleep at night your body is burning Glycogen - When you wake in the morning your body craves Carbs, hence why people crave carbs in the morning.

Although scientifically this is the best time to work out it does not necessarily mean it is the best time for you. You should work out when you feel you have the most energy. New studies show that people perform better at the end of their work day.

Hey Bro you coming to Toronto this year?

Thanks for the tip, I'm planning on working out in the morning on wednesday and try it out. I must say it was nice to get of the computer at 5pm and go to the gym today, hope my back can handle it :upsidedow

I like to go at 2pm and 2am. 2pm for cardio since its too packed after 4pm from after-workers and at 2am I do weights.

King Adam 05-07-2007 05:08 PM

From my experience, 10am - noon ... and then again from 1:00pm -3:00pm/

The morning at 10am is the best time in my opinion. Most the workers are off to work, the retired peeps are either early morning or early afternoon.

The one good thing. The only other peopls that are really there at 10am are the MILFS !!!!

Screaming 05-07-2007 05:21 PM

i say morning gets the day off right but at least afternoon

Go Charles! Go Charles! I didn't know you were so dedicated now a days. Good stuff.

JMan, go whenever you feel like it... just do it.

Some would say working out on an empty stomach right after you wake up burns the most fat. Whether or not it burns the most fat or not is up for debate but it is definitely the best time to raise your natural testosterone levels which will overall help more than doing it at any other time of day.

But, as I said before, it doesn't matter when... as long as you do!

Its been my hobby of the month. Lost about 5 pounds of fat in a month and gained about 3 in muscle so not a bad start. Although when your at the gym 3-4 hours a day it eats a lot of your time!

Whoa 3-4 hours for cardio and weights? Neither of those two sessions should take more than 1 hour, really.

I'm doing about 75-85 minutes of cardio and then add cool down time. Stretches, and then weights. It adds up quickly. But yeah, I'm cutting back on cardio, I'm noticing little gain after 60 minutes I find.

Yeah 60 minutes is really good. As your body fat comes down and you want to add more muscle, you may even want to cut that down to 45 minutes. Lots of people take more than an hour to do a weight routine, usually it means they're resting too much between sets. 1 minute is good :)

Yeah, I've been trying to shorter wait times between reps and its been brutal. I can definitely feel it the next morning, although I'm usually crying in pain once I try to get up and feel like I got hit by a truck.

Jim_Gunn 05-07-2007 11:33 PM

I like to work out after breakfast in the mid-morning to get it over with and boost my metabolism throughout the day. But whatever time you do it is fine.

ayne468 05-07-2007 11:35 PM

I would say it is the time that works best for you...because then you are far more likely to stick at it:)

Pleasurepays 05-07-2007 11:40 PM

Jman.. you have to remember that any question about diet and exercise has to be answered within the context of your goals. There is no perfect answer... in spite of the fact that people love responding as if there is, when they know absolutely nothing about WHY you are working out and what you hope to achieve.

If you are lifting to gain size and have your diet and everything else in order... then its most important to lift during that time of the day that you have the most energy and you are going to get the best lift and can exert yourself the most. for me, 1pm or so is best. often, i just go when i feel like it, whether its 1 or 3 or 5 or whatever. If you are not doing it for size and trying to burn fat as a first concern and have your diet in order... then usually, the earlier in the day, the better.

unless you have some real goals that you are focused on, it doesn't really matter when you work out... it only matters that you do. :)

d-null 05-08-2007 03:41 AM

10 or 11 in the evening, the crowds die down, lots of room to move around and no waiting for any equipment

For me it's Night. Because you have less activity after that. If you're work out sked is in the morning you still have lots of obstacles to went through...like eating a lot...and the likes

Vlad 05-08-2007 04:54 AM

the best for your muscules is morning time , period

For me it has been most easy at night, from 7/9PM to 9/11PM, when I visited the gym during day time it would cost more energy for some reason.

BT 05-08-2007 05:26 AM

In the am bro so you don't make up excuses later in the for not going

carol.prime 05-08-2007 12:26 PM

as far as i know, morning is the best time to workout..

_Richard_ 05-08-2007 12:29 PM

morning is best, gets your blood pumped for the rest of the day

Humpy Leftnut 05-08-2007 12:34 PM

I think I'm just a pansy, but if I woke up, went to the gym, worked out, re-showered, came home, ate.. I'd be done for the day for sure :)

BigCashCrew 05-08-2007 12:34 PM

The morning for many reasons.
Get it out of the way.
Your metabolism is best.
Get more energy throughout the day.

Any time is good to be honest. As long as you are doing it is all that matters.

Phoenix 05-08-2007 12:35 PM

depends on your goals really

krosh gave good advie if you are focusing on cardio and want to shed some weight.

i prefer to always eat a meal before the gym....noit heavy just some fruit..yogurt etc.

work out with no breaks inb between sets so you keep the heart rate up.
you should be able to do two body parts in 35-40 minutes

then go do 30 minutes cardio

SxDx 05-08-2007 12:37 PM

i used to a trainer @ gold's in college. there's no scientific proof that a particular time of day is better to train at then another time. it's really mostly dependent upon what time of the day you can get the most out of the time you spend working out. for some people, that's the morning. for others, the evening.

royaljelly2 05-08-2007 12:39 PM

Everyone has their moments of when they feel most energized.
When I joined a gym I use to go at 2pm. I had good energy and the gym was much more empty - bonus!!
But morning's rock if you can do it - feel so pumped all day.

g$$$ 05-08-2007 12:41 PM

yeah..when u wake up..drink water...and u will burn off fat

If you are in the gym more than 45 minutes, you are wasting your time.

LAJ 05-08-2007 12:48 PM

I'm up at 6am every day... 40 mins of cardio, 40 mins of weights. Best time of the day for me. I'm energized all day afterwards.
