Spiderman does 55 Mil opening weekend.. but....

It did 55 Mil it's opening weekend, (which is a record) but here is what I think will happen.
A lot of times people buy into the hype of a new movie. Especially if they liked the first one or 2nd one. Everyone rushes out to see it, and if it sucks (which I've heard 3 does) then people will tell their friends and word of mouth will spread and then it'll start to tank. Look at Rotten Tomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/spiderman_3/ it's not doing rave reviews. It's barely got 62% fresh. It made 55 million dollars and it's getting a little over half the approval of it's reviewers. Not good in comparison to the hype. Did you see it? what do you think? I heard it just had a lot of crying in it. I will most likely not even see it on video. :1orglaugh |

when was the last time a GREAT movie made a lot of money before it hit dvd or re-release?
The movie industry has been taken over by tv execs.. if it works use it.. and use it.. and use it... 80% of the "blockbusters" this year are sequals.. Spiderman 1/2 were never "Great" movies.. they were entertaining movies with a brand behind it.. I'm sure 3 can't be *that* bad.. it'll do fine imo ;) |

I will wait until it comes out on dvd

Enough said, go see it. |

A movie like this is almost review proof. It is an event. It's like Pirates of the Caribbean people aren't going to it to be blown away by acting skill and deep story lines, they want some cool special effects and a good time.
My prediction is this one will make a ton of money and then they will change. They will get a new cast and new director and they will go the way of the Batman series where they start to suck. |

$55 mill is not really going to dent the overhead/costs, but obviously OK for a weekend opening. By the time around 70% of that $55 mill is spent on promo/distribution/theater costs - they'll be lucky to see $15 - $20 mill of that $55 mill. Think RedShoe is correct - this is the danger time and depending on word of mouth and reviews, it can earn good money or have a struggle - but, chances are it will still earn over time. |

Anyways it will have made $150-$200 mil over the week-end. I'm going to see it. I don't care what some homo losers who live with momma thinks because it doesn't mesh with their comic book collection. Night At The Museum sucked ass got bad reviews yet somehow keep bringing in an audience for weeks to the tune of $250 million. |

I saw it and i did not like it. too much hype. I could of waited till it came out on rent. I wont buy it either when it comes out on dvd.
