Opinions on Paysite review sites ?

I was actually thinking of creating one myself, but I have no clue about conversion rates and popularity of those sites. I don't have a simple 'put-a-bunch-of-tour-pages-together-and-sell' site in mind, but an actual review site where I would actually try to review something.

Since I have no clue about them, I'd like to hear some opinions. Thanks :thumbsup

cafeaulait 08-21-2002 05:51 AM

I've just signed up with adultreviews.net

They've got a pretty comprehensive paysite review service and they just give you a version with your own sponsor codes instead. nice. :thumbsup

Theo 08-21-2002 05:54 AM

I hate them. Specially when I see gammacash site on top spot. :-)

gothweb 08-21-2002 05:55 AM

I say this a lot, but here goes... Don't do something because it is working for other people. If you are going to build a new site, please don't clutter up the internet without adding something new. There are too damned many sites of most types out there already, leeching off a limited pool of interest. If you don't make something where demand is better than supply, or create the demand for your product, why in the world would you bother?

That said, I like review sites. The traffic we get from them converts really well, and I like the idea of people having a place where they can get an outside opinion on sites. In a market where every rinkydink site claims to be #1 on the web, an honest review must be refreshing... and it means quality gets a chance to win over marketing.

cafeaulait: thx for the fine words.

Well, it works for us.
Do real reviews, the surfers will hate you for doing anything else. There are some fake review sites around, which we could do without. But it's a free world so they can do what they want.

The ratio is lower than TGP. It depends on which traffic you pump into the site.

Our experiments has shown a TGP traffic ratio on about 1:200 +-50
That's on the traffic which actually clicks to the sponsor.
SE traffic is ofcourse the best.

My opinion, if you have the time, go and do it. Let's do a link trade if you get it running.
If you don't have the time, then use your own version of our site.

Yeah, I've seen adultreviews' announcement yesterday. This is not what I want to know though. My question is if average Joe usually even bothers to look at the reviews, using such sites.

I am simply interested in the conversion ratios of such sites, if it's even worth to bother with it at all ...

Thanks gothweb, I appreciate your opinion. Of course I would not want to make something copied together. I have made my own experience that you have greater success whenever you do your own thing. And once it's appealing and people will feel like they're not getting bullshitted while reading a critical review, I believe there might be a high success rate.

Gotta do some more research, but once I start, I'll hit you up for a password as well :winkwink:

Don't do it....it's shite....you won't make a buck...:winkwink:

Why do you say that ? Lemme guess, you run one ? :thefinger

Make sure you add something to the idea of "review site", rather than just releasing another site with the same idea. If, in a few weeks, you can't explain to me, and the viewer, why your site is going to be different, in 20 words, go back to the drawing board. :) I look at it this way... Would they rather go to your site or Jane's Guide? Until there is a reason for some of them to pick the new site, why bother?

Either way, I'll gladly give you a password to review our sites... but if you make the site something really interesting, then I will actually *care*.. and so will the audience.

X37375787 08-21-2002 06:27 AM

Hehe, ok - sounds like a deal. You'll hear from me in a few weeks :thumbsup

Master_Yoba 08-21-2002 06:34 AM

I think more review sites less paysite cheaters. Good luck, Equinox :thumbsup

Theo 08-21-2002 06:38 AM

AdultReviews.net is a real reviewing site, because most of the ones you can find around they have NEVER seen the real members area. This means any similar attempt requires pretty much work.

ServerGenius 08-21-2002 06:39 AM

Ok I lied.....they work well.....be honest, no favours, good update
frequency and you'll be fine. Good Luck Equinox....if you have
questions or need help gimme a shout :thumbsup

Didn't expect anything less than work :) I am just wondering how hard it might be to ask big programs like Topbucks/Platinumbucks/ARS for passwords to each of their sites ...

PaySiteGuide.com is an affiliate of mine and they rock! But like someone else here said in this business you make money coming up with new creative things

Libertine 08-21-2002 07:06 AM

Actually, you can make good money by making the same product and making it look just a bit different.
How many search engines are out there?
How many paysites are out there?
How many tgps are out there?
How many webdesign companies?
How many hosting companies?

Ofcourse, the market will get saturated. However, that doesn't matter much, if you are able to become one of the bigger players. Just be able to pump in lots of traffic, offer something useful to the surfer, have a good domain name, and it will work out.

You'd be surprised, most of the big guys will gladly step up with temporary passwords after you start sending them some real sales - just tell them what its for.

If they won't then they've got something to hide and you can comment on that in the review - again increasing reader trust.

Hit me for a user:pass for my site in the sig if you get it going. :winkwink:

Thomas007 08-21-2002 08:08 AM

That's correct most of the sponsors are happy to give us passwords to their sites.

Eventhough, there are two major sponsors which hasn't let us in yet.
Max Cash says they doesn't give WMs access to their site.
We have asked them 4 times or so.
Lensman just doesn't reply to mails send directly to him.
So Lensman, if you read this and want your sites reviewed, feel free to mail me.

The point is that most sponsors coorporate.
And why shouldn't they if they think they have good sites.

X37375787 08-21-2002 11:57 AM

I guess in the worst case you'll take out your CC and take a look during a three day trial or you just pay for the whole month. Not a biggy, considering you will get a picture of how it looks and you'll earn your surfer's trust.

Unless the program like Maxcash will get pissed off once they see that you have screenshots of the member area on your page and they'll cancel your account :winkwink:

Well, we've been running what you call fake review sites for about three years now and they still work well.
