are there people still choosing check over epass payment

Its about affiliate program payment options.
If the program is paying via both, checks and epass, is there a reason for you to choose the check?
What is it?

Sosa 05-03-2007 06:20 AM

I've never signed up with epass. Tried to multiple times and kept getting errors. I don't mind getting checks so it isn't a problem for me.

BucksMania 05-03-2007 06:21 AM

ok then if the program DOESNT offer checks as an option, would this make you to not use it?

Slick 05-03-2007 06:39 AM

I actually let a couple of my sponsors keep sending checks. I guess it's because of the Epassporte daily limits. I did get the ATM withdrawel raised up to $600, but sometimes that's still not high enough, so it's nice to have some checks come in to just deposit them rather than having to run to the ATM every day to pull out $600 or transfer over $600 daily to my account.

no, but then they should offer to create epass accounts for their affiliates.
when the sites of the program are what I'm looking for, there's not much that will stop me from using them.

Tom_PM 05-03-2007 06:51 AM

Oh god yes, checks. There is no risk with checks. There is no fee at all for me to use checks. The only drawback of using checks (if you can call it that) is that I have to endorse them and fill out a deposit slip and go to the bank within a month or two or three.

If a program didnt offer checks, I would not join them unless they offered Direct Deposit, or free Wires with no large minimum due.

SmokeyTheBear 05-03-2007 06:51 AM

NEVER put all your eggs in one basket..

Banks are fdic insured. epassporte is not. if they vanish like ibill they vanish with all your cash , you have 0 rights.

Besides that they have limits , my checks never have limits , i just say "cash it "

cool1 05-03-2007 07:19 AM

epass much of the time
check once in awhile
my bank puts a 6 weeks hold on all US checks :(
they told me it is cause to many people at the branch have been burned with US checks they got from the internet.
I told them those were stupid greedy people who shouldn't have used ebay to sell their goods in the first place, when the local flea markets are good enough to make some cash..

Bex 05-03-2007 07:23 AM

We offer both payment methods. Most of our webmasters still use check, although epass does continue to gain in popularity.

ask to speak to your bank manager.

Tell him "look i understand you have certain rules , but you and me both know you can verify and collect on american checks instantly there is zero risk , your teller just has to walk over there punch in the numbers and voila., i have spoken with "competition bank" and they said they will have no problems cashing my american checks instantly, this isn't a threat its just common sense, you wouldn't wait a month for your paycheck would you ? I have no choice but to switch banks unless you can cash my checks in a more effecient matter.

Banks only lose out because they save money by pooling american checks together to cash at the end of the week and thus some of them will not be valid by then.

Danas1 05-03-2007 07:25 AM

epass i think is better

100% agree with this post. Checks are easy, checks are free, check stubs make my accountant smile. I see no reason to join a program that doesn't offer them.

King Adam 05-03-2007 07:37 AM

I'd say I use ePass for about half of my programs. I still get checks from many though.

BucksMania 05-03-2007 03:19 PM

ok, here is a bump for some more opiniouns

BucksMania 05-04-2007 02:05 AM

and lets get a lil bit more

clickhappy 05-04-2007 02:11 AM

Love epass. Was so tired of bringing 8 or 9 checks into the bank, some of them with curious sounding company names. Ive had 2 tellers read the company name and ask me what the company did, really embarassing.

Big_Red 05-04-2007 02:26 AM

checks. i am not sure epass is very safe.

lbc213 05-04-2007 02:27 AM

I use epass for some and cheques for others. I like to use both and have a bit in my epass for anything I need.

Also my bank is great with USD Cheques (I'm a Brit). I actually have to only wait 2 working days for the money to clear. I takes the bank a few weeks but they give me the money after a few days. I guess they would just take it back out of my account if the cheque bounced, probarly with a hefty fee too.

okdesign 05-04-2007 02:50 AM

ePassporte rocks! :thumbsup

Yes, if they don't offer checks or ACH I won't use the sponsor. I have used ePass in the past but no longer consider it as an option.

hit the nail on the head right there with everything I was going to say

if a program doesn't offer checks I close the sign up form

Sarah_Jayne 05-04-2007 03:22 AM

I don't know why but I just like checks better so I keep my payment options as checks.

Toni 05-04-2007 03:36 AM

I think it is around 50/50 right now. Most foreign webmasters choose Epassporte, most US webmasters still want checks

as for losing money just clean out the epass acc. out regularly

and what i prefer is definately epass over checks.
To receive a payment with epass is instantly, checks take 4 to 30 days before they even arrive. And when we look at the costs for $100:

epass: $100 - $2 (ATM fee) = $98 / 1.36 = ?72.
check: $100 / 1.36 = ?73.50 - ?12.50 (cashing fee) = ?61.

i wish cashing checks was free like in the US.... that fee of ?12.50 is per check..

HEAT 05-04-2007 04:09 AM

I hate checks.
it takes 2 weeks to recieve them in my hand after sponsors sent
and a month for my bank process them.
so I have to wait almost 2 months to cash out.

so I choose epass and wire transfer only.

notabook 05-04-2007 04:15 AM

Check or free DD/wire has got to be an option for me or I won't sign up. I don't mind a little higher cashout for checks or dd/wire though.

Pete-KT 05-04-2007 04:53 AM

I take checks from all our affilaites, no thanks on the epass, lots of problems recieving, but Saancash does payout with epass to our affiliates that want it

BlackCrayon 05-04-2007 05:07 AM

Well when epassporte doesn't have a canadian bank option, unless you live in the states you gotta hit the bank every day (500/day is not enough) and then deposit mass amounts of cash while the tellers think you're a drug dealer or something.

shermo 05-04-2007 05:10 AM

Checks all the way. It's guranteed to always be a valid form of Payment, whereas a company like Epass could disappear at any time, along with your money.

BucksMania 05-04-2007 05:29 PM

thanks
....

That's when you answer, plainly, "They send me checks for you to deposit in my account."

So long as you're not making 10k deposits, I may be wrong in Bush's America, but I believe it's none of their business where the money comes from.

woj 05-04-2007 05:54 PM

What's so great about epass anyway? for US webmasters I don't see any obvious benefits... some wise guy will probably say, "you get payments instantly"... yea, that's great, but then when you withdraw the $$, you have to wait 2 weeks for it to appear in your bank account...

RayBonga 05-04-2007 05:58 PM

epass, no doubt.

cheks are too expensive and too much work

trix 05-04-2007 06:04 PM

I got an email from a sponsor I used to promote heavily, not so much anymore. They asked how they could send my money via epassport. I never used it and steered clear of sponsors that didn't use checks. Because I had money pending, I had to sign up. What a pain in the ass. Have to transfer money in to start the account. All sorts of tiny little fees. Had to call my bank. All in all, a big pain in the ass.

But I live in the US. I love picking up my checks at the postoffice. I only go once a week so it is a surprise as to what I get.

And my accountant also loves the check stubs (as mentioned above). It makes doing my taxes easier.

sicone 05-04-2007 06:24 PM

I prefer checks.. easier to track my monies come tax time.

I also don't like all the fees associated with Epass

Cyndalie 05-04-2007 06:28 PM

I prefer checks.

In my experience as a user epass = epainintheass

Love the premise, dislike the functionality (timeframes) and fees

:thumbsup

I've signed up to a couple programs to only find that they didn't do cheques... Never again... with all the uncertainty about ePass and the gambling issue, I don't see how any intelligent business wouldn't have cheques.

AmeliaG 05-04-2007 06:39 PM

It isn't really convenient to get my $$$ out of epass. I pick it as a pay to for a few programs just to facilitate paying other people who like it, but most of the time I select check or wire.

Sly 05-04-2007 06:39 PM

Honestly, I do not trust epass. At all. The stories I hear again and again, thats enough for me to avoid them like a hooker with a needle stuck in her arm.

By doing checks I'm usually about 4 weeks delayed on the money I really have, but it really isn't a big deal. I'd rather be late on money than risk the possibility of not getting it at all. I see my nice stack of checks sitting on my desk... whereas epass, who knows where they'll be tomorrow.

Weird. I do 40-50 at a time, never any problems. Just say Internet marketing.

nico-t 05-04-2007 06:45 PM

checks are from the stone age... why do wires cost so damn much in the US? administration fee for the little people inside the computers?? So damn rediculous they still use checks... in europe everything is electronic generally with no costs at all.

IllTestYourGirls 05-04-2007 06:49 PM

epass, I dont mind going to the atm a few times a week when I need to when I get really big, checks all the way

BucksMania 05-07-2007 03:08 AM

thanks to everyone
i got the idea :)

Absolutely true for me, already cancelled the signup process for several sponsors after seeing it's epass only. Wires only, no problem, but I don't trust services like epass. Call me old fashioned.

Another reason: A sponsor not offering check payments and/or wires looks fishy to me, especially if the domain(s) are registered on a company or person in a country with a questionable legal system or using domain privacy. Who can assure me that a program like this has 2257 documented legal content ? Should I rely on an contact email, icq and a link claiming all content is 2257 compilant and legal ?

Irvin 05-07-2007 03:41 AM

i got always to epass but may be it is not big sum of money.

VicD 05-07-2007 05:18 AM

most of the time epass, sometimes a check, i must pay 17,50 for a check so it's almost not an option for me

just a punk 05-07-2007 05:19 AM

Checks suck IMHO.

babydred 05-07-2007 05:46 AM

I use epass and get checks from the sponsors that use CCBill (with no epass option).

So a sponsor has to have one or the other for me to signup with them...

candyflip 05-07-2007 07:45 AM

Daily limits and issues with ePass have me getting checks from my sponsors who offer a choice.

I'm not hard up for the cash, so I can wait a few days for the check.
