Yet another coder to scam me on the same project..

Im currently trying to rebuild my content store with some fancy new features and I have hired two different guys to do the job, both have left with no trace and the project is about 50% done.

Where the hell do I find these people?

Can anyone recommend any good, honest, hard working coders that I can contact to finish the job?

k0nr4d 05-02-2007 03:54 PM

If you can wait 2-3 weeks, I can help you out.

Jamie 05-02-2007 05:17 PM

Tell me about it, we went through 4 devs to get our project off the ground
We even hired a very known company in the adult world, wasted a lot of money and time.

First recommendation, dont hire anyone on GFY
Second recommendation use elance.com or getafreelancer.com

But you have to due diligence on each bidder, I got burned a few times there to. We finally got a badass dev after trial and error.

Good luck with it, its a tough spot to fill

It's going to cost you more getting a programmer to finish another programmer code that have one start from scratch.

It really depends on the project and if it was well documented but in most cases you are correct.

Surt mannen, hoppas du hittar nån som kan fixa det åt dig :thumbsup

I agree completely. 4 out of 5 times i get hired to finish or fix someone elses code, i end up redoing everything from scratch.

Be careful of those freelancer sites like elance, from what i've seen on those most of the people on there are in india or pakistan, speak horrible english and worst of all, undercut my quotes :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh

TRUE DAT

Perhaps try scriptlance? I've used it for a few projects myself which were fine quality. And ya watch out for the yoyo's on it, the ones with decent reviews were the ones that got my work.

I don't know what the fuck it is with programmers but they always fucking disappear!

I think sometimes they get in over their heads.

As a fellow independent programmer here's a few tips:

- Us programmers think we're much better than we really are, so when a programmer gives you a time frame double it and you'll have an semi accurate figure.
- While we may be the fucking baddest ass programmers to exist, we often lack basic business and social skills. So a week into the project we might decide that we gave a price to low or are not capable of completing the project so we'll just go poof, vanish and disappear! So be sure to always maintain communication and pay after work is completed or use an escrow service.
- We really don't care about your deadlines.
- A few of our family members may get sick and die - multiple times. Being a programmer is an EXTREMELY dangerous job for everyone involved so keep that in mind.
- We're big procrastinators, going back to number 1 we think we're king shit and the fucking best, so for a 8 week project we may think we can get by and bullshit the first 6 weeks and get everything done in the last 2, at which point family members begin getting sick and suddenly dying ;). So be sure to keep an constant eye on progress and demand daily/bidaily updates.

this deserved to be posted again

and coming off saying "50% of the code is completed" will scare off any decent programmer because we have to ask ourselves the following questions:

why is the code half way completed? did the other programmer just suck and wasn't skilled enough to cut it which typically makes most of the existing code useless? was the client an asshole/douchbag to deal with causing the other coder to get fed up and walk out?

That's like telling a Jew "Don't go to Syria, Iran is much better"

You've got mail at [email protected] (sorry don't have icq access for now).

RRRED 05-03-2007 05:55 PM

Here try my b/f... 306-803-821 is the icq and he's not gonna scam you. You have my word. If it's something he can do, he will. He doesn't need to convince you to hire him so he will be totally realistic. He's done a few coding things here lately for some people in the industry and he's received nothing but "Wow that was fast" and "My bosses loved it".

He'll be back here shortly so leave him a msg with what you're wanting done exactly.

RRRED....This guy is a known scammer himself. Why would you put your BF in a position to get ripped off by him and why would you support him by giving him any leads?

He fucks people over.....Multiple times....Even being currently discussed on another one of his spam thread on GFY today.

RRRED 05-03-2007 06:14 PM

Oh yeah? Thanks Aaron ;) I didn't know that.
