Has anybody ever really tested sign up prices / ratio's?

And tried all the possible prices from let's say 9.95 to 40 bucks a month?

And if so did you find a certain price that just made your sign up ratio twice as bad for example going from 20 bucks to 25 bucks a month. And/or prices that didnt seem to change the ratio at all or even better improved it?

The one thing I have tested is that the cheapest trial or signup prices doesn't guarantee the most signups.

Yeah thats what i figured too in other cases but now i'm interested in full month joins stats.

You cant make conclusions based on 10 joins a month bitch.

Dirty F 05-03-2007 07:07 PM

Thanks BV for some great info.

tranza 05-03-2007 07:43 PM

You're right, I'm somebody.

All I know is cheap joins don't work well. Look at all the $10 join programs that never made it big.

We've done it with our sites totry and find the best conversion price point. Some converted better at a higher price point, while others faired better by lowering the price.

Cutting the price in 1/2, or by any percentage not guarantee there will be any increase in member sign ups. But this is just with our products. Solo girl customers are a different breed, as they more likely buy what they like instead of bargain shopping.

Would be interested in hearing what the results are for general paysites.

An important note is there's traffic more suited for premium prices and other traffic suited for pricing discounts. Depends on the source,

We almost always have some form of split/multivariate testing underway for client's/partners. Even so we have never come close to testing every variation, let alone for a given site.

It doesn't wind up making sense to test every possible variation of price (aka segment), because that means that you wind up with too many 'segments' to compare.

When are split testing you need to make sure that you have enough people in each segment to give you confidence in the validity of the test.

Here is a spreadsheet that enables you to calculate how much traffic to send to a given segment (price/page etc) in order to let you judge the 'winner' based on how confident you want to be that the results of your test aren't just a 'fluke'.

Depending on your conversion ratio (or estimated ratios) it usually turns out that you only want to devote enough traffic/time to test a few prices.

Don't forget to that the traffic you send to the test segments that perform worse than the 'winner' is costing you money.
