Does MONEY change people???
What are all your thoughts? In general, do people become happier individuals when they run into some money, do they start to turn into assholes or remain exactly the same?
I can only go by the people i know personally but it is a split decision for me. A good friend of mine made some crazy money just before the stock bubble burst and now owns a few night clubs in Toronto and Montreal. He has become an arrogant prick to the general public but i still get along great with him. My former boss sold his company to an American competitor in 2002 for almost 200 million. He was one of the nicest guys i had met before the large score but he seems even more humble and down to earth today than he ever was. His only car is still a 92 jag. For the majority of other people i know, making their money has definetly changed them, but i would say for the better. |
yes it does, no matter what they say
|
Give me some and I will let you know.....
It would change me in some ways, but I would still be 'me' - I wouldnt dump any friends or anything like that. Im not one of those idiots who wins the lottery and carries on working packing super market shelves though. They just fucking annoy me. I remember seeing one guy who had won 20+ million interviewed being asked what he was going to do with the money - all he could think of was buying a new car and visiting "Disney"..... What a waste. |
It doesn't change people, I think it just brings out the inner character that was repressed while they were poor. Good person becomes better, bad person becomes worse, and inner insecurities get either fixed or amplified. That's my theory anyway.
|
it depends on the person..on how do they handle their money..
money doesn't change people..rather, people do change for the money.. even if you're poor or rich, money sucks..that's the reality.. but always remember, money can't buy anything.. |

Yes, it changes 100% of people.
|
money doesn't change people. it just shows how they are for real.
|
money does change people !
|
Of course it does. Anyone who says otherwise is feeding you some good ole fashioned BS
|
Money changes everybody...good or bad depends on the person and your relationship with them.
|
money are changing people for sure, if i have empty pockets, i dont have anything to eat and then im going to be more thin as usual :thumbsup
|
Depends on the individual.
|
Everyone has different reactions to money. Some people will feel so blessed after going through such a rough time that they're humbled by the experience. Others will become overwhelmed with greed and let their money swallow them whole.
I would like to think that I would feel blessed and be humbled, but I'm sure that's what everyone thinks before it actually happens. I have known a few that were the nicest people in the world before they get a lot of money, and then afterwards become selfish, bossy, greedy, pretentious, and cold.... |
It does... not only superficially
it also changes them deel inside |
I think a lot of people get really greedy after they have money, probably because they're afraid of going to back to not having it.
|
yes........i have seen my own people....changed a lot.............that I hate them now...........
|
I think you'll find that the people you think change after making their money were the same way they were before.
|
yes, and not always in a good way...
|
The only thing that I would change would be minor things.
|
yes it can, it makes them think they can use people
|
Yes .. I'm a complete asshole ....

It changes some people. As Barry Gibb referred to it as, "First Fame". The dollar sign, and things you can buy, etc. people let consume them and become 'who they are'. It will then start effecting people around them as the materialism and greed will draw in people who want to be around it, or the gold diggers who are out for it. People who have the money will start letting it 'define them' as a person. The money, and what they have will unfortunately be the 'cofidence' they draw on. So if they ever lose the money, they are devastated. Especially when all the supposed 'friends' go away. I've been through this on more than one occasion in life. Twice it changed both me, and the people around me. People who you thought were friends, and women who you thought wanted you for who you were. Not what you have. The third time I've managed to play it low key, and it's had a minimal effect as I fly under the radar. But for the handful who've found out by someone running their mouth (about this business, the models, and money) it always draws out people who would not give you the time of day. Honestly in retrospect it's a lot like building yourself the ultimate golden prison in a lot of ways. Once you get there. You'll find out. :2 cents: |

I belive that most of the peolple are changed by money. No matter they say that they are the same. I know some good examples. Peolple with money usually look on people with less money like they are lower class.
|
I think certain recent threads are a proof that money change people.;)
|
you know what? i would have to say this is a case by case scenario...
I know plenty of very wealthy down to earth people |
I've never known anyone who went from not having money to having LOTS of money so I can't really say "from experience" if money changes people.
But I will say that I've delt with people over the years who've had lots of money and most of them were impossible to get along with for any length of time. They're arrogant, they're bossy, they're disrespectful, they're exactly the type of person that I hope to never become....even if that means I'll never have a lot of money. |
I have seen a friend go crazy, almost paranoid from it. He won it in the lottery and not by hardwork.
I had a friend make millions from a startup. He definatley became more chill afterwards. Bought a nice place and a decent car and went and got a 9 to 5 job...lol (Network TV) but it was something he wanted to do. |
Yes, see it all the time!
|
Yes it does. In my experience it enhances our true personality
Mr. Romance |
100% yes !!
|
The old addage goes Never forget where you came from...
|
It's individually depends on the person!!!
|
yes, money does change people. my best friend is a perfect example but as some of you already mentioned. people then show how they really are.
|
It depends on the person. Some people change, others just buy tons of shit.

But I've seen a close example of making, and not helping others, who were once important for the man I am talking about, and leaving them to struggle... ok struggle is one thing, maybe they deserve it, but leaving them on their own? THAT'S fucked up... Who would need his help: the members of his own family... |
I would think only if you didn't like yourself very much in the first place.
|
If I had a lot of money I'd get Botox in my balls, those motherfuckers would be smooth like eggs.
Seriously, I'd probably get revenge on my enemies, like the Count of Monte Christo. |

Umm...not quite sure on this one...give me some money and I will let you know:)
|
I don't think it changes people. If someone gets money and turns into an asshole. They were already an asshole. They were just too poor to be one.

Fuck Yeah. I'm an asshole when I walk into a dive bar with a grand on me.
Now not having money, that REALLY changes people. |
I don't think people with alot of money necessarily are/become assholes.
People who had no money and get alot are often the problem. They had to suffer from the feeling of being a loser, they often weren't treated with respect and one day they feel it's payback time and do the same things they always hated so much. Maybe not true in general, but pretty often. |
Of course it changes people ! Some just knows how to handle it better than others...
But how about looking at all the people that change towards people that get rich ? Some people all of a sudden has the hand out for nothing, expecting to get some....Others are just jealous, bitching about a person they knew that made it that changed..... Money, it's a big part of life, hell 95% of the world does something they don't like from 9-5 to get some money. |
I've gone from rags to riches to rags to riches to rags .. and now Im trying to rise again.. At the moment Im still probably better off than most ,but you really can't see how much you change as your bank amount changes. My rags at the moment just mean I cant travel like I would like too. Back in the day my rags meant I could'nt feed my family.. so I guess broke is relitive. I have watched one of our own grow "rich" before my eyes. When I first met DukeSkyWalker he was a small program owner with a new angle. Duke and I became friends. As his company grew he did not change a bit. He would be as comfortable getting a hot dog from a street vender as he would be eating in the finest restaurants. Ive seen him in the company of millionaires and in the company of one sale a week affiliates, duke has always treated everyone equally. I wish during my high times I could have maintained the same confidence and integrity. Im not hand jobbing him but he is one of the only people I have seen that money had no effect on, same guy from begining to present.

Money will change people, as people will treat you differently. Someone who is broke is treatly differently than someone who is rich.
