Anyone do protein shakes?
 
Not talking about the white milky ones that some of the girls on here get. But seriously, does anyone who works out take protein shakes? I need to buy one without any added fat, just looking for a good/trustworthy brand. I used to take MVP like 3 years ago, anyone know the best one now?

I mix a scoop and a half of VPX ZeroCarb whey protein in water for my post-workout shake. It has no carbs or added fat, and tastes good too. (I love vanilla). Get the 4.5 lb container it is more cost effective.

i like banana chocolate flavor, i tried all of them that tastes the best. But I just don't want to get cancer in like 5 years from taking the wrong one.

i've always used nitro tech by muscle tech they've been around for quite some time now and their products always worked well for me i also took their cell tech for some time and if your looking for a creatine supliment check that out. any GNC should have their products.

if you like chocolate, you have to get brand: Muscle Milk. Flavor: Chocolate Milk. It tastes like chocolate milk. Its is so good. I have 1 to 2 a day. You can their lighter ones which would suit your needs. They also make the RTD (Ready to Drink) shakes for on the go. Their protein oatmeal is the bomb too. Have 1 every morning with my breakfast.

The best shit EVER is Optimum Nutrition PROComplex Chocolate. 2 scoops is 4 grams of carbs and 55grams of protien. 250ish calories.

dont listen to any of the fools above..haha...

the muscle milk one RTD is good..but its high in fat....

the best one is by labrada..lean body (vanilla)....

dont buy any of the gnc ones they are all nasty...(except for the muscle milk -mocha joe/banana creme) or the isopure RTD

keep in mind, unless you are on steroids, your body can not process the 40+ Grams of protein in some shakes and you just pass the protein out the back door....

Muscle Milk tastes the best of all of them. It's absolutely delicious but it has added fat.

If you want simple but not disgusting that mixes with just 4 stirs of the spoon go with Optimum Gold. I always have about 5lbs in a couple of versions on hand. Strawberry is the best. It also contains enzymes to help digest the protein... not to mention it's the best priced protein around.

Just a word of caution to all of you, do not OD on protein. Keep your serving size down. I have been drinking protein shakes for 20 years. After a while I found that more than 20 grams of whey per serving taxes your kidneys over time. Drink it slow & in low doses for continued health.

Yep, I can attest to ON, I love their stuff. I am on a major diet at the moment so I usually start my day with 1 scoop, I have 2 scoops before and after I exercise, and have a 1 scoop ON casein protein before bed. It tastes great, and is cheap as far as supplements are concerned. I will have to try Muscle Milk though, I have heard good things about that stuff other than in this thread.

i found out the hard way when 8 yrs later i had such shooting pains in my kidneys...i stretch my shake over 15 min period compared to when i would guzzle it down. Plus i never take in more then 30grams at a time...

by the way, put a scoop of L-Glutamine in your shake, especially on the days you lift weights. great supplement that gets overlooked...

For you guys that had problems, 20-30 grams of protein at a time is more than sufficient. And you have to drink plain water after the shake and throughout the day keep from getting dehydrated or running the risk of having kidney issues.

i'd say stay away from the brands that have huge ads in magazines and stuff, they're way too expensive

I use pure whey protein (90%) isolate, creatine from "creapure", glucose and some Omega3 acids.

yes, whey protein powder (chocolate flavor).

make a low fat simulated chocolate malt thusly:

2 scoops whey powder, add ice, 10 oz low fat milk, and 2 tablespoons carnation malt powder.

blend in blender for about 2 minutes at high speed.

very low calorie (approx 300) thick and ice cold similar to dairy queen. drink after riding bike or bowflex.

add a banana for variety.

buy the mix a costco (cheap).

helps you stay on your diet, keep a flat belly, and feel full.

plus the protein each day helps you bang the old lady good.

I'd reccomend Isopure whey protein isolate. Remember, protein shakes are dead proteins and should not account for more than 30% of your daily protein intake.

Muscle Tech is good but it's way over priced. Don't go to GNC. Buy online at Bodybuilding.com. It's 1/2 the price than at GNC and it's reputable. Lots of great articles there too. This is good protein for cheap. I drink about 4 of them a day.

Yeah, learned that the hard way as well. Not the hydration part though. I have consistently drank at least 64oz to a full gallon every day for the past 10 years.

But, as my muscle mass shot up I tried to keep up with my protein intake. We are talking well over 300g of protein a day average.

30 to 50 grams per serving of the best shit money can buy 3-4 times a day. Isopure, ON, Muscle Milk etc. I usually hit around 150g from shakes alone.

Then, the pressure in my back came. Not comfortable pressure but it was that, "Oh shit, something is seriously wrong pressure!" I spent time adjusting my diet & training by dropping stuff out to see what was causing it... I even wondered if it could be all the fat in the muscle milk. Nope, it was the protein. The Doc confirmed it. Whey was the biggest culprit because it shoots straight to the bloodstream.

So, I cut protein out altogether and ramped up gradually to see what my tolerence actually was while giving my poor kidneys a rest in the process. I found that when I decreased the amount of daily protein down to just 1g per pound instead of the standard fitness magazine brainwashing that you need 1.5g to 2g per lb guess what... no muscle loss, better health.

Now I get about 60 g from shakes and the rest from natural food.

I don't drink big post workout shakes anymore, but I do sip on a mix of complex and simple carbs plus 20g of protein during my workout (Optimum Nutrition)... a muscle milk lite RTD or shake during the day with a fruit snack and ON's Pro Complex PM at night.

Remember, guys in prison get huge without all this extra crap so eating right and being smart about your routine is really all we need. Don't let the magazines brainwash you.

i need to gain weight before i start the gym. ive tried the mass weight gain shaked 1500 calories per seving but it didnt do anything for me. whats the best stuff to try for gaining weight?

Bad idea. You will want to gain weight by lifting weights and eating enough healthy food spread out through out the day according to how much you weigh.

i almost OD'd on creatine and taurine the other day. i only do 50gs of protein each day anyhow. i was driniking creadrive like crazy and i felt like i had done 2 grams of coke. never again. almost ended up in the hospital.

Yeah, age, he he. Really don't complain, you probably don't have an especially fast metabolism anyway, that's just one of those nonsense things people say that they base on almost nothing. You do NOT want to lower your metabolism. A truly fast metabolism is good, and usually only comes when you pack on some muscle which burns calories in your body even at rest.

If you eat enough healthy food and lift weights you will gain muscle, lose fat if you have any and eventually gain weight and raise your metabolism.

Creatine is EVIL! I don't touch the stuff anymore. Especially the new breed of creatine based products like White Blood and N02 stuff.

It's not like steroids or anything, like a lot of uneducated anti-exercise fools say, but nothing good comes from that stuff over the long term. What it does to your body isn't really a good thing and all results are only temporary. Stop taking it and you deflate like a balloon.

Me personally, I like to see my real results as they happen. Creatine and hemilodators don't allow you to see what's really going on with your development.

yeah pretty much. i am done with it. i am lucky i can put my size back on pretty easy if i eat right, eat more and stay focused, never used creatine ever until this time round. i will never use it again. it really made me ill, coupled with all the taurine in the stuff i was taking. its not a nice feeling.

i'll stick with my xyience weight gain, it seems to fill in the holes that i may be skipping with the meals.

the msot important thing to me is to keep drinking the water so my kidneys dont get pissed at me.

yeah sperminator, the 50gs i meant was from the shake. all in all im getting about 120grams.

im 142 now, i hope to hit 160 by july, naturally. im eating damn near everything that isnt tied down.
