Most overrated singers

I am throwing Bjork and Barbara Streisand into the ring. I just have never 'gotten' Bjork even when everybody else seems to think she is amazing and Streisand has announced a UK gig where she is charging nearly $1000 for tickets.

Your votes?

wyldworx 05-01-2007 05:17 AM

celine dion.

she should be no way near this list imo...

good bet should be anyone that wins american idol or programs like that..

lbc213 05-01-2007 05:37 AM

I dont know if you want to call them 'Singers' or 'Rappers' but any idiot that sings about (as they put it) Fuckin' Bitches, Getting High and Killing cops. Its a load of shit every rap song sounds the same to me. :2 cents:

nikooo 05-01-2007 06:35 AM

u will find them in the idol show

Drake 05-01-2007 06:36 AM

Al Green. Sure he has some ok sounding songs but he's propped up as some great soul singer, which he is not.

candyflip 05-01-2007 07:41 AM

Andiz 05-01-2007 08:41 AM

Another vote for Ashley Simpson.......or Kelly Osbourne

CyberHustler 05-01-2007 08:46 AM

Shakira... I'd hit it, but her singing sucks.

WebairGerard 05-01-2007 09:02 AM

celine dion is annoying as all hell and I don't like her music, but she can sing

never could get into Bjork either. Ashley Simpson makes the list too for sure.

I am constantly amused that Kelly Osbourne has ever had a hit song.

Actually, much like those defending Celine, I don't like her style of music that much but I have heard her sing in her native language and really knock it out..she can sing with the right material.

I don't think I like a single song of hers but I can bet my ass that unplugged she'd put 90% of the idiots you see on MTV to shame

she has a great voice, now if only she could use it more for singing and less for screaming I'd be her No1 fan

Sarah_Jayne 05-01-2007 11:25 AM

Beyonce was decent in Dreamgirls but I thought her role as the less talented singer that gets the spotlight over the better singers was well cast.

jhauser 05-01-2007 11:27 AM

Spears comes to mind.

Shakira...

he-fox 05-02-2007 05:53 AM

Spears and Timberlake. fucking jokes.

Kiwigirl 05-02-2007 06:35 AM

I think that most of todays artists are over rated as
they all sound good in the studio due to mixing and
shit but when live they sound like lobsters being thrown
in a pot of hot water. That includes rock music as I went to
a concert this past wkend with several different bands
playing yet they all sounded the same. LOL
You just got to look good and have a good manager to
make it in the biz, the way you sound don't seem to
matter anymore. Hell they even let Paris Hilton put out
an album, who's bright idea was that one? LOL

I like that quiet song enough but most of her other songs I feel is a case of emperor's new clothing.

She can't even lip sync to her own song.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=kEW4VaaBwbo

It's sad how she's just wasting/stealing those kids money (who buy her cd).

AssPirate 05-02-2007 07:55 AM

Bjork may seem loony most of the time. Hell, "Medulla" was a little hard to swallow. But I think people are alienated by her because she's a cerebral musician. Have you listened or read her interviews? I like the way she talks about her music and the way she makes them. She explains things quite simply and makes you appreciate how much thought she puts in her work. But sometimes, she really needs to lighten up. Her more outrageous songs are very fun to listen to. "Debut" and "Homogenic" are great albums. I loved her Selmasongs though. She was great in Dancer In The Dark. More than I can say for Mariah Carey and Madonna.

gornyhuy 05-02-2007 07:57 AM

Clapton, clapton, clapton.

Guitar god my ass.

I think it is more of a case of once great and not doing much to back it up in a long time.

az_bobby 05-02-2007 08:10 AM

Brad 05-02-2007 08:25 AM

First off, Clapton is not even close to over rated. He has been rocking since the 60's. I doubt you would find many other still producing music from that era with a few exceptions like Neil Young. So, that is a fairly uneducated point of view in my opinion. You can say that you don't like him, but saying he is overrated is just plain wrong.

As for the worst singer...it's a hard question because you could pick Britney Spears, but she uses pitch adjusters and pro tools to make her sound listenable on album and lip syncs when she sings live, so she is little more than a performer in my opinion. As for true singers that have been around for a little while (because I don’t think we can consider utter shit like William Hung or sandyvagina in this list) I would have to cast my vote for the new breed of pop singers like Avril or 50 Cent. But if you are looking for someone who has been around for at least a little while, I’d go for Mariah Carey or Enrique Iglesias or even Beyonce.

It wasn't so much worst as overrated. Somebody can be able to sing but the hype around them makes them overrated.

az_bobby 05-02-2007 08:32 AM

how about elton john

For my personal tastes that is another one where it is a case of somebody who as done great work in the past not living up to it as of late.

borked 05-02-2007 09:53 AM

Johnny Halliday

Randyyy 05-02-2007 09:58 AM

Sarah_Jayne 05-02-2007 01:22 PM
