Guys: Do you know how to sew?

Can you fix a tear/rip, or do you have to take it to mommy?

Jon Clark - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-28-2007 01:11 PM

I could do it, but that is one of the reasons I have a wife... :)

fris 04-28-2007 01:12 PM

Scott McD 04-28-2007 01:17 PM

That is really too much trouble for something that takes 5-10 minutes to do.

Nikki_Licks 04-28-2007 01:26 PM

Learned all that in the military

That late huh? I learned to do that in grade school.

DateDoc 04-28-2007 01:36 PM

No, sure can't fix a rip but if it was ripped other than jeans I'd probably not wear it anymore. A button I can put back on.

Voodoo 04-28-2007 01:38 PM

I can do it.

To be honest, I probably would not bother repairing torn clothing . . . but I just fixed my dog's favorite toy. It was worth the 5 minutes.

In all fairness, when you were in grade school people still made their own clothing. :winkwink:

crockett 04-28-2007 01:50 PM

My mom had a sewing store when I was a kid..

jonesonyou 04-28-2007 01:51 PM

I can sew, while getting a B.J.

Murderous 04-28-2007 01:53 PM

Is this thread related to the 'grunt work' thread you posted earlier? If so, I am glad I didn't reply. I can sew... just glad I didn't reply.

I never had to do it as a child but, when I went into the military I had to do these things for myself......sewing was basic stuff.

Warren 04-28-2007 03:28 PM

cool1 04-28-2007 03:49 PM

ya, learned when I was a kid, it was a good way to spend time alone with mom.
now that I have my 2 kids full time I find I use the knowledge more than ever.
thanks mom :)

madawgz 04-28-2007 03:51 PM

Ssv 04-28-2007 03:56 PM

Nope, came up with it while repairing one of Buddy's toys.

beemk 04-28-2007 04:23 PM

i could probably figure it out, i had to take a class in 8th grade. i would give it to my mom to do though.

Goodings Media 04-28-2007 04:24 PM

I can sew, knit and croche

Yes I am very straight, just my pops didn't have much cash when I was a kid so if I fell down and ripped my trousers playing football, I sewed em up :thumbsup

The knitting I can blame on my mom. It was either knit, or hold the ball of wool

dissipate 04-28-2007 04:26 PM

learned how to sew while in the marines of all things.... most marines can.

CDSmith 04-28-2007 05:02 PM

I've stitched up tons of stuff over the years with the old needle & thread.

Unmanly?

Better than taking it to mommy or walking around with holes in your clothes like a goombah.

nekrom 04-28-2007 06:38 PM

A button no worries, but a tear in a piece of clothing would take me a bit longer to nut out. We get tought basic sewing in primary school but that was yonks ago. :)

seeric 04-28-2007 06:40 PM

Spunky 04-28-2007 07:04 PM

Yes,yes I can

DirtyDanza 04-28-2007 07:04 PM

I can sew.. my mother never could sew so I had to learn haha...

Ackeric 04-28-2007 07:08 PM

I am boat builder by trade and used to work for sail maker. I any case you should not own a shirt if you can not put a button on it

jayeff 04-28-2007 09:30 PM

I can certainly sew. I used to be able to knit and embroider too, but it's so many years since I have done either, I doubt the results would be very impressive :)

I was one of those kids who wanted to know everything and how to do everything. At the time, it didn't strike me as any more strange to learn how to use my mother's sewing stuff than it was to read my father's law books. And let me tell you, at 8 years old, 20 volumes of "The Roman Laws of Jurisprudence" are no picnic!

viva celebs 04-28-2007 09:34 PM

thats what working and shops are for. when you ruin clothes, you go and buy some more.

MattO 04-28-2007 09:38 PM

Yes, I actually made my pimp outfit for the Player's Ball in New Orleans a few years back.

Nicky 04-28-2007 09:45 PM

I can do it no problem, either with a machine or a needle, but I have no urge right now :)

justinsain 04-28-2007 10:23 PM

My Mother and sisters could sew just about anything and I watched just enough to be able to do some simple stuff. I made the dress in this picture and it's nice to be able to go to the fabric store and spend about $12 on some fabric and make something myself as opposed to spending $120 at the mall for something I will only use once for pictures. For me it's just part of the creative process in producing an image.

D 04-29-2007 02:00 AM

I can sew... crappily.

I've spent the last year convincing my girlfriend it's a domestic skill she needs to master. :)

nikooo 04-29-2007 03:17 AM

that is easy.......for single.........

It is his comfort toy. First one I bought for him when I first got him.

While he will spend hours (if necessary) to destroy any other toy I have gotten for him, for some reason he loves this thing.

When I go out of town and friends come over to walk him or play with him, that toy is always with him.

It got rained on the other day so some of the seam started to give out, so I decided a stitch in time saves nine.

mattz 04-29-2007 01:51 PM

I have no idea, never sewed anything in my life

Ah... you mean "creative sewing" :winkwink: Can identify with that :-)

Sure.. used to publish a lot of catalogs of "erotic fashion" (about 4 times/year) and operated a factory to produce the product - but still no clue whatsoever about "sewing" - but can tell if stitching/seams are crappy :pimp

Vendzilla 04-29-2007 06:01 PM

I learned to sew when I was a kid, I can use a sewing machine, but pretty much if it tears, I throw it away

nico-t 04-29-2007 06:21 PM

this thread deserves at least a nomination of 'most useless thread of the year'-award.

sexxxydesign.com 04-29-2007 06:23 PM

dpRoberts 04-29-2007 08:09 PM

I can, but it isn't pretty.
