What is a render farm composed of?
I've got a situation where I need some in-depth reading about rendering farms that I need to do but I don't know where to look.
I have a client that is in to making documentaries and wants me to put together a small (1-3 machines) render farm for him. Problem is that all I've ever used is Adobe Premiere and Microsoft Media Encoder. I need a/some web page(s) that will cover the various aspects of a small render farm including hardware, job management of the hardware, software involved, etc. Also, when you submit a job to a render farm, what info do you provide and how do you get them the material and what/how do you get it back? How is the quality determined? Thanks. |
Look at Silicon Graphics site. I had the displeasure of managing a small network that contained a few machines used for rendering. I was right out of school and had NO idea how those machines worked but I do know they were all powered by SGI.

I just googled "render farm" and then found some links on Wikipedia site including this one that looks very helpful.
