Best WiFi router?

I need one that won't constantly drop the connection and that has a decent range, whats good?

Are those belkin N routers any good?

Damian_Maxcash 04-26-2007 09:36 PM

I just dumped my Linksys for a Belkin....

So much better..... go for the Belkin

cincinati 04-26-2007 09:43 PM

Cash 04-26-2007 09:45 PM

BV 04-26-2007 09:48 PM

never ever go with d-link
back when i thought all routers were basically the same...i had a d-link, used it for 4 months started to drop connections..tried everything
went out and bought a "better" more expensive dlink router and after 4 months it didnt work anymore

switched to linksys and things are workin fine now

I've never heard so many people dump on linksys. I had netgear, semens, belkin, and d-link. My linksys is the best by far. The netgear was just as good except when transfering millions of tiny files across the network. Then it went slower than shit. Dunno why. Semens was ok. Belkin and d-link were cheap shit.

I've had good luck with my Linksys wrt54g.

venus 04-27-2007 01:16 AM

Consumer level (and even business level) wireless ... SUCKS. 4 real... as it sounds like you have already experienced... the technology just isnt there yet and your better off with hardwire.

GeorgeM 04-27-2007 03:47 AM

try Linksys with openfirmware :thumbsup

BVF 04-27-2007 03:56 AM

I have linksys and I have to reset it at least once a day...I thought all wireless routers did that since Linksys is the most well known.

djroof 04-27-2007 03:59 AM

I have Robotics

I had one like that. They had an issue with their WRT54G version 5. It should say on the bottom of the router which version it is. That's the one I had. I got tired of it and got a WRT54GS with SpeedBooster 4 months ago and so far no issues and it works great.

By the way most 3rd party firmwares won't work on Versions 5.0 or later on either the 54G or 54GS and in some cases will fry your router.

As far as range, my PSP that uses and internal wireless B antenna can pick up at least 10% signal at 180 feet outside and the 54GS is inside toward the front of the house and I was walking in the back yard and I was walking down a slope. Wanted to go father but ran out of yard. I'll run more tests later.

Chef86 04-27-2007 05:23 AM

I use a belkin as well, never had any problems with it at all, I just love it.

Cyber Fucker 04-27-2007 05:43 AM

I have heard much good stuff about linksys routers.

Xenophage 04-27-2007 07:47 AM

I have spent about $3000 on wireless stuff for my house, I like the New netgear N over the linksys N I am about 500 ft from my router now through a garage and through the whole house. Its pretty good but still does not match the hard line, I also had good luck with the linksys over electric line if you dont need huge bandwidth throughput

HomerSimpson 04-27-2007 10:36 AM

fuck wireless - cables rule :)

Boobs 04-27-2007 10:38 AM

go with a linksys :)

Juicy D. Links 04-27-2007 11:13 AM

peeperpimp 04-27-2007 11:15 AM

Westell Versalink router awesome never drops for me... Great signal strenght range too, all over my neighborhood

LiveDose 04-27-2007 11:15 AM

I use Buffalo Technology and it is awesome.

King Adam 04-27-2007 11:19 AM

I had a d-link and after a couple months it went to shit.

I just replaced it with a Linksys and everything is running faster.

Redmanthatcould 04-27-2007 11:22 AM

I've used SMC, D-Link, Belkin (N and G), and LinkSys.

Belkin N was the most expensive, but also the best product overall; I could get a signal 4 houses down my block (walked outside with my lappy for a test).

jakethedog 04-27-2007 11:26 AM

lol .. i have an old Linksys.. wireless B i have had for 5 years ..have 5 comps plugged into the back and run all plus my laptop all day everyday .. had to
"reset" it once in the 5 years ... I have no complaints with it at all ..

SilkyJohnson 04-27-2007 11:56 AM

I had a LinkSys and it constantly dropped connection...I just bought a D-Link and have had no problems at all. D-Link Bitches!!

The Sultan Of Smut 04-27-2007 12:03 PM

My preN Dlink router has always done the trick. One thing you may want to try is to have the router and internet adapter plugged into different power bars.

FrankWhite 04-27-2007 12:13 PM

i use my old linksys WRT54GL with Firmware Version: v4.30.9

works just fine.
