I'm taking the plane back to the US on September 9th. I assume nothing's gonna happen, but I am still afraid that some shitheads will look for trouble those days.... :(

since sept 11, ive been on 12 flights...here is my advice to you. Number one, sit as close to the cockpit as possible. Usually its first class. Keep 2-3 pens with you, so you can use them as weapons. If shit goes down, jump in front of the cockpit door, with your back pressed against the door and dont move...remember if they get in there, its probably not going to be good. Also i would reccommed purchasing one of these http://www.evac-u8.com/ just in case. During Sept 11, i was attending a college near Trenton, where all the anthrax was being sent from. I was that kid in college who had the full CBN suite (chemical, biological, nucluer) as well as plenty of potassiam iodate incase of nuclear war...then again, i have too much time on my hands and like to be well prepared. Good luck, odds are nothing is gonna happen. But better safe than sorry.

no more or less safe to fly than before. airport security is still a joke. if it'd make you feel better, take care of all of your oustanding affairs before stepping foot onto a plane. or in fact, before you get in your car, or go to sleep every night. then you won't have to worry about anything.

why worry, when that guy tried to light his shoe on fire, he got his ass beat and tied to the seat. people are always looking for shit to start.

I would figure that on 9/11 airport security will be way more abusive and incompetent than they currently are...

I started flying again on 9/14 last year, and I will say that of the dozen or so different airports I frequent -- including ATL, Vancouver, DFW, PHX, Vegas, Miami -- not one of them has the same set up, and it even varies from terminal to terminal.

In my opinion, the last thing they would try is the same thing they did last year. And especially around the same time, too many people on alert.

Suicide bombers at the mall maybe, hijackings, not likely.

i flew a couple of weeks after sept 11 last year. didn't have a paid for ticket. went straight to the terminal and paid cash there. didn't raise any flags at all (they did search my bag though).

they have gotten worse about some things, especially the lines through security. oh, and it is definitely very different in each airport as KimmyKim said. completely arbtirary rules, too. i think they make them all up on the spot. "You need to take off your shoes because you asked if you could go through the metal detector."

oh, and while i'm here, allow me to say: western union SUCKS. friend sent me the money for the ticket on saturday night. went to pick it up monday morning - the money wasn't even sent yet. they had to confirm it with the sender (they coulda done that saturday but they did not). moral of the story: avoid western union unless you don't mind getting money sent slower than postal mail.
