WTF is up with affiliate reps who . . .

WTF is up with affiliate reps who cold email and are all "promote my program, promote my program" kind of pretending it is the personal touch, only they have no idea who they are emailing and no intention or ability to reciprocate.

If someone emails me and tells me they are promoting SpookyCash and they have say a fetish program which can convert goth traffic, I'll totally throw some traffic their way and see how we both do.

But don't you all think it is rude for a program to just basically spam and then act offended if the program owner they are spamming asks if they want to promote the program they are asking for traffic from?

Humpy Leftnut 04-26-2007 12:21 PM

I keep reading that last sentence... just don't get it..

Anyways wanna list your sites at Pornsumer? :)

I agree and it's sad, but desperate times, desperate measures...

mailman 04-26-2007 12:23 PM

I never understood that also... you dont need to cold call/email people to get them to join.

fucking business 101, & it goes for all businesses

if you can't show them that respect their not worth doing business with

Dwreck 04-26-2007 12:46 PM

I wonder who hires them Amelia? Makes me disappointed because its gives affiliate managers a bad name.

I don't know wherether to laugh or cry.

What do they expect you to do? Reply and say ok i never met you before and I will switch all my links over. sheesh

not everyone is into trades, and in some cases traffic buying is a completely seperate department from traffic selling.

For example, it would be impossible for us to 'trade' for all the traffic we send out to programs since our outbound traffic is optimized to maximize revenue and not to play with.

..but i do understand your point. Deal making is like carving a statue. Inside every block of granite there is a beautiful work of art, you just need to consistently chip away the right pieces of stone until you have 'found' the sculpture inside.

Phoenix 04-26-2007 01:02 PM

selling aint an easy gig:)

tASSy 04-26-2007 01:05 PM

when we get our fetish site up and running i'll be hitting you up on a personal, targeted level amelia, don't worry! :thumbsup

Rule of thumb:

Try at all times to avoid doing business with those who are obviously braindead.

g$$$ 04-26-2007 01:08 PM

if it doesn't make dollar$, it doesn't make $en$e.... :)

I understand all these words individually, just not in the order you put them in.

Dwrecks a master...he won't ever ask for your traffic, but he's so fucking cool, you can't help asking him about his program :thumbsup

Sarah_Jayne 04-26-2007 01:15 PM

I would think most people would know who you are and what your program is about..if not they must be very new. I would jump at your traffic if I had a site to covert it.

You sent me cold ICQ's and I still dont know who you are other then you work with AFF you should give everyone a lesson on how to just hit poeple up they have no idea who they are.

Humpy Leftnut 04-26-2007 01:32 PM

I've been sending cold e-mails all week, is that an issue? I'm sure I sent one to your program too Medium Pimpin.

I don't see a problem with this, we've been in the industry for years, have promoted tons of programs, etc.

Basically I sign up to a program and send them an e-mail to follow up with me and signup for our new review system. I've only had one complaint so far, from a gay program who didn't understand why they should have to do any work for me. His choice!

No the problem is say myself for instance I dont know who you are or what you do but I see your email on gfy so I just email you saying yo join the program thats the issue. They have nothing to offer other then spamming you to join the program.

I love reps who spam your whois email when they find some of your sites. A recent one didn't even notice that I had links to his program already on that site, and that I was signed up as an affiliate under the same email address as the domain was registered.

Ouch. Annoying a current affiliate is worse than making someone actively not want to become an affiliate.

Jace 04-26-2007 10:06 PM

I love the ones that icq you asking to send traffic, when in fact you are sending traffic AND sales

I agree. If they want to do business they should be willing to reciprocate in kind. Ridiculous.

see! it works doesn't it! :1orglaugh

I gotta agree.. I hate being spammed a million times with programs and what I hate more is the people begging me to promote them over and over on ICQ and if I don't reply they will just ask again the next day rather then move on..

And while we are on ICQ LOL why can't people introduce themselves and ask the question they want rather then say "hey are you on"

Simply put treat this like any real biz and when you first talk to someone state your name, website, affiliate ID (if you are a affiliate), and what you need

fris 04-27-2007 07:48 AM

tell them to gfy :p

oh shit, don't get me started in IM etiquette

like people you don't know and never have met IMing you and saying "hey"and that is it

when I am the one that initializes a new icq convo with someone I don't know I always say something like "hey, this is jace from FORUM HERE, i run SITE HERE, i was wondering...."

yahoo-xxx-girls.com 04-27-2007 09:18 AM

Hi AmeliaG

Perhaps this is where their "quality" traffic comes from and is sold to the traffic brokers for some $$$

You would think they would be more business like.

PS.

JACE... you should not be making remarks on being proper... RETARD !

:1orglaugh

I agree 10,000%. I no longer reply to "hey" icqs.

Rochard 04-27-2007 09:35 AM

I prefer ICQ. This way you know someone is putting effort into it.

I think what you are doing is 100% fine and not at all like affiliate rep untargetted spam. First of all, you have a special pitch and you give the impression that you know what you are doing. Secondly, you are contacting programs to give you special assistance to promote them, not emailing them asking them to promote something without offering something special. Totally different.

By the way, you've got email :thumbsup

BucksMania 05-15-2007 06:59 PM

sometimes i wonder who hires them

Shey 05-15-2007 07:08 PM

My favorite is when you've been working with a program and a rep for years and all of a sudden a new rep comes in and spams you having no idea who you are. :error :1orglaugh

No shit... Some people are really stupid... Had a rep email me in the last week and say.. hey.. we have this new site that would be great for your site yada yada yada.... If they had actually spent the time to look at my site, they would have seen the link on there promoting it already with "NEW" next to it...
