Why I Hate Living in TX this time.......

of year.....TORNADOES!!! The weather sucks here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area today. We are having major storms and tornado warnings and this is a HUGE draw back of living in this area of the country! :helpme

AdPatron 04-24-2007 03:52 PM

I've yet to see one.

I've lived in Dallas since the early 80's, and have yet to even see a tornado. I wouldn't stress out about it too much

baddog 04-24-2007 04:15 PM

I can't wait for tornado season to get going as Abyss_Al and I are going off to chase them.

I've always wanted to go do that. I've seen water spouts while on a boat but never a tornado.

The one chance I had of course I wasn't home. Last year a tornado went right over the building I live in and broke a bunch of windows and tore up the roof a little. I didn't get to see it because I was out of town.

Texas is too hot....I have to agree with you there but I really like the Dallas area. We have just learned to either stay inside during the summer or stay on the lake. By the way, how about those awesome Dallas Mavs? Give them time....they will win :thumbsup Sorry...couldn't resist :winkwink:

Arista225 04-24-2007 07:11 PM

The rest of you here are CRAZY......I grew up in far North Texas "Tornado Alley" and have seen my share and went through one in 79......no thanks!!

Arista225 04-24-2007 07:14 PM

OH....by the way....they were recently hiring for a "tornado chaser" job out of Ft. Worth on this Biotech site I ran across.....the pay was $35,000 per year.....I wish I had posted that job description here it was good for a laugh.

nikooo 04-24-2007 07:20 PM

I haven't seen it yet................

BruceGee 04-24-2007 07:22 PM

havent been around a tornado. Would you guys rather live where theres tornados or earthquakes??

ADL Josh 04-25-2007 11:23 AM

anywhere you live there's some sort of weather threat..snow storms, hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, etc. every part of the country gets some worse than others

spiro11 04-25-2007 12:36 PM

never seen a tornado.. we just get rain :)

ry0t 04-25-2007 12:47 PM

In every city you have different weather patterns. If you moved to Boston you replace the word tornado with snow. If you lived in California you would say earthquakes. You can't get away from nature.

Jimmy Rock 04-25-2007 01:03 PM

I was born in TX-houston I moved away the day after high school graduation 15 years ago, and only been back 4 times since...TX sucks

ContentSHOOTER 04-25-2007 01:04 PM

I grew up in North Texas too, about 4 of us from the board are from this area.

In Dallas we have pictures of 3 or 4 at once.. I have heard many, seen more than my share. I have picked up baseball sized hail. I have seen the temp go from 90+f to 30f in hours and it start snowing with lightening.

The storms don't bother many. I called my dad during the storms yesterday and the hail sirens were going off when I called, he was sleeping.. No reason to move unless you can hear the train coming.

SykkBoy 04-25-2007 01:22 PM

That's what i like about living in Nevada...
we have basically two kinds of weather: "hot" and "holy shit my legs are melted to the car seat"

but we don't get tornados or anything like that...

tony286 04-25-2007 01:24 PM

too damn hot

Yeah...that's the attitude my parents have....but I'm afraid of them because I was pretty young when I saw a tornado so I now have a pretty big fear of them. BTW....since there are a few on here from North Texas....ever hear of Wichita Falls? :1orglaugh I got out as fast as I could!! :winkwink:

I have to agree with you there.......Houston and San Antonio and all down in that area is super humid.....you start sweating as soon as you even think about walking outside during the summer.

WOW...not from TX and you've heard of Wichita Falls....there isn't much there. Actually, it is getting much bigger now but I still don't want to live there. I guess some people have heard of it because there is an air force base there.

Well...I know when I moved away back in 1993 the population was around 100,000 .....I think. So...it's not that big at all.....and it's almost in Oklahoma....now there's a state I NEVER want to live in!!!

Meeper 04-25-2007 04:13 PM

Tornadoes are no fun.. speaking of natural disasters, I think Cali is about due for an earthquake =X

Don't forget the plagues of grasshoppers! I remember one summer the pond under NYNY's statue of liberty was full of dead hoppers and even the elevators inside the casinos were littered with them.

Believe it or not, we had some kick ass ones in Miami area a about 7 years ago. Wiped out the UPS loading lot in Hialeah,

Steve Awesome 04-25-2007 10:38 PM

Texas ain't that bad.

You have a better chance of dying in a car wreck than having a tornado or hurricane kill you. 40,000 people die in car related accidents every year in the U.S.A. Guess how many die in tornados? A drop in the proverbial bucket.

I highly doubt that! Yes, it's in what is considered the "bible belt" but....I think that is stretching it a whole lot!
