NFL Draft this weekend. Who do you hope your team gets?

I'm a dolphins fan. :thumbsup

Hopefully Levi Brown is there at #9, we need a left tackle badly.
Would be nice to trade up to get Joe Thomas but that would probably be too expensive.

I think they'll take Trent Edwards or Drew Stanton in the 2nd round too, which would be a really smart move.

OMG Jim 04-24-2007 02:30 PM

AlmightyJim here from the ATL. I don't have a clue what Patrino is thinking but it sure would be nice to snag our homeboy Calvin Johnson since we moved up to 7th with the Houston trade.

I really think that Calvin will go before the 7th pick though :Oh crap

g$$$ 04-24-2007 02:54 PM

and the #1 pick for the oakland raiders....is JaMarcus Russell...playoffs for the raider nation this year

Johnson will be long gone by #7, although he would be a perfect target for Vick.

There's like a 60% chance Johnson goes #2, if not he's not getting past #4 where the Bucs pick.

My prediction for this year is that Russell will be a bust, the next Ryan Leaf. (Maybe not with the crybaby off the field stuff, he just won't live up to his status as the best QB in this draft)

They'd be better off taking Calvin Johnson, who they could then trade within the hour for a bunch of picks. (Right now nobody wants to trade for the #1 pick because they're so sure Oakland will take Russel, so the teams who want Johnson are talking with Detroit instead, if Oakland takes Johnson and then puts him on the block, they'll get a windfall for him)

Then they should take either Brady Quinn or one of the 2nd round QB's. One or two of the 2nd round QB's this year will be the next Drew Brees IMO.

When being better than aaron brooks is the standard you measure your quarterback by, your team is in BIIIIGGGGG trouble. :1orglaugh

Not anymore. You guys lost both starting cornerbacks from last year and the Pats got hella better in the offseason.

The Colts will score a ton of points as usual, but they won't go deep in the playoffs with that secondary.

We've got PM, what the fuck else we need?

IMHO he's gonna get his way finally these season and hand micro-manage not only the D but, the D players as well.

Mark my words dude.

No offense, but I seem to recall similar statements being made last year. I also remember putting money down on the Bowl before the playoffs even STARTED. Made a tidy little junk on that one.

I think they should take Calvin Johnson and trade him for an established QB

You've had PM for 9 years, you've won the big one once.

Based on that logic if he plays for another 9 years you'll be due for another one.

You guys lost some key defensive players that you couldn't afford to keep because you've spent most of your cap money on offense.
It happens to almost all super bowl teams. They'll be in the playoffs this year but they're going to have to hope for a bumper crop of defensive players out of this draft to go all the way again.

g$$$ 04-24-2007 05:01 PM

how about trade him to the forty whiners for alex smith????

What was your excuse from 1998-2005 then? Indy has lost a lot of players.

Actually ATL picks #8 and I hope we get Landry.

But there is a lot of talk about moving up to #2 to get Johnson. Not sure I want that.

Browns fan.

We are about to make the biggest mistake in NFL history when we draft Brady Quinn. We always draft shit QB's and we are doing it again.

Cleveland will not even make a playoff run.

Picking Quinn at #3 would be a massive mistake.

I thought they were hot on Peterson though?

I thought we were too. They've been talking about him for weeks. All of a sudden over the past 7 days or so, they are talking Quinn all the way. What a joke. One would think Cleveland has learned from the Tim Couch and Charlie Frye mistakes.

GatorB 04-24-2007 07:10 PM

With the 4th pick in the 2007 NFL draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select.......

Calvin Johnson

if he's not there then Joe Thomas or trade down a few spots.

Yea, Quinn is fucking weak. If the Raiders for some reason fucked around and drafted him first I would shit myself... :Oh crap

TGVinny 04-24-2007 07:32 PM

From the way it sounds, the Raiders are trying to work out a deal for Trent Green. At least that's the rumor mill. If that's the case Calvin Johnson is #1. He should be #1, what is he 6'4", 230lbs, 4.3 speed, 32 inch vertical, built like a brick house... But even if they draft Johnson, they've got tons of holes to fill, like the other 9 positions and that's only if Moss doesn't get dealt!

Anyways, I'm a Vikings fan. From the way it sounds and the way the mock drafts have been going it sounds like Adrian Peterson. Which would be decent if he and taylor splits carries!

They're not going to take Quinn. They're just throwing that disinformation out there to try and bait a team that wants Quinn to trade up with them. Then they can move back a few spots and pick up some extra picks.

Long term I think Quinn would be a great pick, I think he's the best QB in this draft.
However, Phil Savage and Romeo Crenell need to make the playoffs this year to keep their jobs, they want someone like Peterson who can help them win right now, so I seriously doubt they'll take Quinn.

Hahaha, that's hilarious and so true.
Too many Steinbrenner wannabe's in the NFL and all of them have shitty teams because of it.

Raiders won't get Green. He's going to Miami, that's the only team he'll renegotiate his contract for. If they trade him anywhere else that team will have to pay him $7M for this season, and that's not going to happen.

Peterson would be a good pick for the Vikings, but I don't think he'll fall that far. Even if Cleveland passes on him someone will trade up with the Redskins to get him at #6. The Skins are desperate to trade down because they only have 3 picks (I think) in this draft.

I don't think Washington will even have this pick... they might deal this pick away to get more draft picks cause they don't have a pick from 2-4. Even if they pick here, I'm sure that they're going to draft a DT or DE, Joe Gibbs has historically been a "Need Based" drafter and hasn't been keen on taking Running Backs in the first round.

However, back to the Vikings. I could definitely see a lot of situations in which Adrian Peterson will drop to #7, but I've never been a fan of taking a RB in the first round, but Peterson does have a lot of upside. Detroit is the big question mark on who they'll choose. If Johnson doesn't go #1 do they take him, I'm not sure. I would think they would go with the likes of Offensive Tackle Joe Thomas from WI to be their staple in their offensive line. I think he's the best O lineman in the draft. Some might make the argument for Levi Brown, but Brown doesn't have the mobility to pull like Thomas does and not in the shape Thomas is. Thomas Goes #2.

If Calvin Johnson goes #1, then picks 3 and 4 will be Quinn and Russell. Anyways, to make this post a hell of a lot shorter here's how I see the draft going up to the Vikings Pick:

1) JaMarcus Russell, QB LSU
2) Joe Thomas, OT Wisc
3) Brady Quinn, QB Notre Dame
4) Calvin Johnson, WR Georgia Tech
5) Levi Brown, OT PSU (AZ seems pretty set on taking an OT, that's why I think Brown goes 5)
6) Gaines Adams, DE Clemson (If Wash doesn't trade down for more picks, consider Gaines Adams a gift at #6. Another scenario is Washington trading to Chicago for Lance Briggs. Which might happen if Gaines Adams is here for this pick and AZ didn't take him at #5.)
7) LaRon Landry, FS LSU (Although I want to say Peterson to compliment Chester Taylor cause Taylor can't be an every down back, I think they take Landry cause of his huge upside and our lack of depth at safety especially considering Sharper is at the end of his prime and maybe in his decline!)

Anyways, this years draft will be interesting because there isn't a clear cut #1. I called the Mario Williams pick last year because the Texans resigned Domanick Davis (Now Williams) to a 4 year deal. Too bad he tore an ACL in preseason! Oops... and now he's waived with the arrival of Ahman "I Fumble too much because my hands hurt from beating my wife" Green. Not drafting Reggie Bush #1 was stupid! It was like Portland taking Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan. (Even though I'm using an NBA example)

Any questions to my madness?!?!

I think Green will be fine. Other than being 37 years old there's nothing wrong with him.

I think he's out because he's Dick Vermeil's guy, always has been, and now Herm Edwards wants to develop his own guy. I think that's also the reason he struggled a bit last year, because the offense was different with the new coach and it takes time to adjust.

I hope the dolphins get him, they already have a young and raw QB on the roster and will probably draft another this year, and Green would be the perfect bridge so the fins can win some games while the young guys develop. :2 cents:

Haven't heard much about football this year and my home team since I was out of state for 5 months. Is Brett Favre going to play another year with the Packers or is he done?

Yes, I'm from Wisconsin, and no, I don't like cheese that much

Favre is going to play another season, he has 12.5 million reasons to do so. However, I think this is going to be the farewell tour. And if it's not then look for him to be in a different Jersey for the 08/09 season!

They should just go back to the 90's and surround Barry Sanders with an actual offensive line, spend the rest on defense. Lets admit it, he was the only reason why they resembled a team!
