Legal Opnion needed

first of all YES my attorney is working on this but I figured Id ask here to see what the masses are saying

Q.

What liablity (if any) will a cosigner have if a vehicle he cosigned for is involved in an accident?

keep in mind the vehicle has insurance

does that make sence?

ex.

if I cosign a truck for you and you hit 10 kids can they then sue me for the injurys to the kids?

everything I have read as of now says no they can't so what do you guys know or don;t know

StuartD 04-24-2007 09:15 AM

I'm assuming that you're cosigning for the financing?
If that's the case, then you can't be held accountable for anything that the driver does with the truck. You're just held accountable when/if the driver can't continue making payments.

I believe they can't do shit. It is a driver/insurance issue. If you don't get any good attorney info post here and I will call my attorney up and check for you. What state?

state of nevada.... my attorney is comming back with this

Yes the cosigner is responciable for the actions of the primary to the extent of the loan
No
in no way could the person be held legally responsible for an accident on grounds that they were the cosigner of the loan that procured the vehicle

same stuff I am reading online...

I just want to be sure know what I mean

I personally think they can not sue you. Its driver's headache.

BUT, does that driver have got govt. issued driver's license? You can be in trouble if he don't have one.
