Quit smoking - day 3

So I finally quit smoking after 15 years of smoking roughly a pack a day of marlboro reds.

Last cig was Sat night and it's been a long wacky ride since then.

Basically, I ran out of ciggarettes without realizing it on Saturday so I though to myself, fuckit, I quit. I've never quit before, always too scared to even try cause I am sooooo addicted.

Sunday I basically confined myself to the couch, Monday made myself not leave the house, I knew if I went anywhere I Would immediately buy smokes.

Haven't slept more than a couple hours since Saturday, just sleep in like 1 hour intervals tossing and turning. The wierdest thing about quiting is I swear everything slowed down. Time is moving slower, my days were usually broken up by routines between smoking. Now I have no time refrence... this is so wierd... only smokers know what I mean.

anywhoo.... don't use patches or gum, they just drag out your withdrawel..

knuckle up and go cold turkey baby!

jesus I wish I could smoke.

Semi-Retired-Dave 04-24-2007 07:38 AM

Hang in there buddy, you can do it. You can do anything you put your mind to.

Gaflax 04-24-2007 08:04 AM

Good Luck,

I have quit twice. Once for 6 months and once for over a year in my 15+ years of smoking. Learn how to occupy yourself when you would normally take a break and light up. Chew gum, take a walk, eat carrots and celery. Hang in there.

What made you start again?

I have to admit in a week I wanna smoke a cig to see what it's like, to see if I can just have 1 and be like "eww this is gross" you know?

Pumba 04-24-2007 08:16 AM

We are with you man. You can do it. First period is the worst, so hang in. Good luck.

gleem 04-24-2007 08:22 AM

the worst is no smoke with my morning coffee.. seems like I have no reason to drink coffee anymore.. it's like fucking without cumming.. peanut butter, no jelly, pointless... *sigh*

It sounds great, but you're lucky that you can do this. I have to go to work and (I know it's not a good excuse but) I have to smoke because of the stress I'm living in :)

but there is one thing I can't avoid..the price of the cigarette... that will be my only reason to myself to quit. I hope I can convince myself :)

Good luck to you buddy! We can do it :thumbsup

jennym 04-24-2007 08:28 AM

4 more days will be 4 months for me. Hand in there. One thing that helped me a lot was Jolly Ranchers (any hard candy) and Twizzlers. When I had the craving, I would use one of those.

BTW, I was up to about 2 packs a day and have smoked for 20 years. If I can....anyone can.

Farang 04-24-2007 08:34 AM

good for you, I quit >6 months ago :upsidedow

gleem 04-24-2007 08:53 AM

hzoltan 04-24-2007 09:00 AM

The Sultan Of Smut 04-24-2007 09:03 AM

The easiest way I found was to wait until I had the flu and I didn't feel like smoking for 3 days anyway so I took the opportunity to quit :)

LiveDose 04-24-2007 09:15 AM

Keep it up man! It's a nasty habit. I quit cold turkey about 8 years ago and opted for a much healthier path. Once you get the stuff out of your system you will be fine.

Go out and buy a case of gum...

TGVinny 04-24-2007 12:39 PM

Quitting is a chore, but after day 5 or so, it gets easier. However, i quit for 4 months and got in an argument while drunk and someone gave me a cigarette it was over from there. Also, if you go to the bar, every time you want a cigarette, take a shot... you'll probably get completely drunk and it's possible that you might puke, but at least you'll associate smoking with feeling unpleasant! Wish me luck, today is day number one for me!!

Fap 04-24-2007 12:41 PM

Hang it there, you're doing a good thing

my husband and i did chantix, also. it's almost a month for us without cigs.

while it's not a ride in the park, it's certainly easier with the drugs than without.

JD 04-24-2007 12:43 PM

been 6 months for me! cold turkey is the only way to fly

That's interesting.. I'll try it this weekend. But the problem is, that after every shot, I'd like to smoke :)

Star 69 04-24-2007 03:09 PM

Good move. I started smoking at the age of 15 and I'm 36 now. I also used to smoke a pack of the red ones but now I am on day 11 of Nicorette Patches Phase I and so far so good, I feel cleaner :)

J. Falcon 04-24-2007 03:33 PM

good luck man, we're behind you

i was like you , i stoped smoking for 1 week :) after that i said i will smoke just a little and here i am i'm smoker again IMAO

so take my advice don't light more then 1 cigarette :) in 1 day i mean

Snake Doctor 04-24-2007 04:53 PM

I tried chantix and wellbutrin to quit. (not together of course)
While taking the pills my cravings were reduced, and I smoked alot less, but I was never able to put them down completely :(

Using the patch was worthless. I put one on the night before, hardly got any sleep and when I did I had some wickedly weird dreams, and the next morning when I got up I lasted about an hour before I ripped the patch off and lit up :(

It sucks to be me

Spunky 04-24-2007 04:55 PM

You can do it!

bobby666 04-24-2007 04:55 PM

my best wishes
i am nicotine-free for 3 months now

sniperwolf 04-24-2007 05:25 PM

keep it up man..if you do really want to quit then you have to sacrifice..goodluck to you and i know you can make it..:)

Video Rob 04-24-2007 06:39 PM

Good on you. Stay strong

Shey 04-24-2007 06:54 PM

It will be 4 months for me at the end of April. I had tried so many times before, did the gum but it gave me heartburn. Did the occasional weekend smoke but ended up smoking a pack in just one night, sometimes more. Finally I just said fuck it, I'm done! So I did the patch for only 1 week to take the worst of the withdrawals and then I went cold turkey. I knew I had success after I went to my first convention and didn't light up once.

PS. I actually dream about smoking sometimes... It's not easy but it's worth it! Keep it up. :thumbsup

phate321 04-24-2007 06:57 PM

its fuckin hard man. i quit about a year or so ago, and my gf quit this last january and shes been smoking for like 11 years. shes doin good, its hard as hell though. :upsidedow

gleem 04-25-2007 06:57 AM

well I smoked half a one yesterday to see what it would be like, I almost passed out and puked... it was like the first time I ever smoked.

And today I don't have any cravings... guess I quit ... yay me!
