If you work for someone else you simply don't have enough skills

And that is a fact.

If working for someone else makes you more money than working those hours for yourself then you don't know what you are doing.

It's really simple: Why would i work for someone else if that same time spent on work would make me 3x or 5x or 10x that what a company would pay me?

MetaMan 04-23-2007 07:45 PM

omfg you are stupid. :1orglaugh

so the top ranking officials of an oil company have no skills because they work for the company?

omg! you = joke

GooSearch 04-23-2007 07:48 PM

i bid on jobs all the time 3 current clients plus my own projects.
i take on extra jobs to
1. get more connections in the ndustry
2. i have been able to buy new equipment
3. sometimes your own projects run stale and somethign new for a 3 or 6 month contract is nice to do

IMO

J. Falcon 04-23-2007 07:50 PM

those are valid points

Well, designers and such is different ofcourse. They depend on others to hire them. Im talking more about general webmasters.

polish_aristocrat 04-24-2007 11:47 PM

why do you make such threads if you never even sent 5 sales to a program? :)

chaze 04-24-2007 11:52 PM

piece of mind is priceless and rarely found when owning your own business.

I have seen people sell and go corporate several times.

wyldworx 04-25-2007 01:48 AM

oh what, cat got your tongue cause the truth is your a sig whore for brazbucks? It doesn't even have a refcode, so i would imagine that is the case....

aico 04-25-2007 02:02 AM

Last time I checked, when you work for someone else that means they don't have the skills, and that's why they need you to work for them. But, call me crazy.

CuriousToyBoy 04-25-2007 02:21 AM

I work for LionDollars BECAUSE of the skills I have built in my own businesses (which I now charge others with running).

And in this biz, sort after skills, experience and knowledge are WELL rewarded.

It's a 2 way street.

Now having said on that the statement made is not entirely wrong.

Franck, you are on the mark in MANY cases, but WAY off in many others.

You also fail to consider the ultimate factor in your own business - cajones.

Many have the skills, have the ability and experience to make a go of things, but they do not have the self confidence, drive and entreprenurial spirit required.

Many that do have that, do not have the skills, and fail.

Many fail and fail and fail and then make astounding success.

Seems to be an awful lot of Microsoft owners, and Google owners, and, and, and...

If you think every person on this list is their own boss, than you simply don't have enough skills.

And that is a fact.

Makes perfect sense...

High ranking officials do work for themselves... They get paid millions... They are the top dogs and everyone else works for them.. You are a fucking retard.

Obviously he is talking about the shitheads that work in the human resources department, on the line, in the mailroom, in sales, in marketing, in maintenance, etc... Or even the mid level managers who run those people... They are retarded fucks too... Working 60 hours a week for that fat 4K a month bonus.... Retarded.... They could work the same extra time and make $20K a month in adult... or work the same entire time and make $70K a month in adult...

Or pretty much anywhere else for that matter....

But to express your point further, I'd rather have the skill of making several tens of K a month than the ability to do design work and live like a pauper.

NO! Designers are the definition of not working for yourself!

So are programmers and admins...

Why get a contract and work for $5K a month (tops?) when you could make your own income and do $10K or $30K depending on how hard you want to work?

Are you saying that you would rather work for someone else at 40hrs a week and get paid $4K to $8K a month? Come on.... that is pussy talk....

I work for ePassporte because working for someone else I have better work ethics, I show up for work everyday and I get paid the same every month.
I have a few sites on the site and make more every month now than when I "worked" for myself.

darling2 04-27-2007 12:03 PM

The money you can earn is determined by two things:
1. Your skills.
2. Your capital

If you have management skills and capital then being your own boss is the way to go.

If you don't have capital then you will generate more cash, even just in the short run by working for someone who has.

Some people are software geniuses but don't want do to marketing. If they don't have enough capital to hire marketing ppl then they should work for a business where their expertise generates the most cash.

Well stated. Just because we work for someone else, does not mean that we dont have outer sources of income.. and I am not talking about submitting galleries either.

Wizzo 04-27-2007 12:25 PM

I would take exception to your statement, in fact the taxes I paid when I was on my own is more than what most average webmasters make.

I chose to be a part of something bigger, and having multiple people that bring skills and talents to the table can have a much larger impact than any one person alone. MayorsMoney is just a small part of what our company does and it would be damn near impossible for any 1 person to run the entire operation. :pimp

I've been around since '98 running my own sites and such. A few years back I worked for a very large affiliate program as the traffic manager. I took the spot 100% for the experience, fun & security of an extra guaranteed paycheck.

I did that for about 2 years, had an absolute blast and enjoyed it very much. One of the greatest advantages of this job was the amount of networking I was able to do. I met many, many more people through that company than when I was originally 100% on my own.

So I was all ready a successful wemaster but still decided to go work for someone else just for fun & extra experience. I sure there are many reps out there that also have there own sites they run. It wouldn't surprise me if there are others out there making MORE money with there own sites, yet still enjoy the security of an extra guaranteed paycheck.

So it is very possible to work for a program and yet still have your own sites making good $$$

carol.prime 04-27-2007 12:43 PM

the fact is: we are working because we all needs MONEY!!

Brad 04-27-2007 12:45 PM

That's false in my opinion. I know many people who are making a boat load of cash working for someone else. Perhaps in certain industries you may be correct, but the fact remains that in many others (oil, education, etc) your theory falls flat. Besides, how much progress could you really make without all of the people who are there to support you or to fix your car or computer, etc? Your post does little more than offend many of the people on this board.

HighSociety 04-27-2007 12:46 PM

you thinking like that shows me how stupid you really are. You work for brazbucks so what is your point? You do not have enough skills to have your own program? These sig whores have such big egos. They send you 4 sales and act like they made you a million dollars.
Site owners work just as hard to make the site as you do to get sales. Fair enough so why make a thread like this and put people down?

rotowa85 04-27-2007 12:51 PM

firstly i would like to say that dirty franck is an idiot. most of the people who are their own bosses, were at somepoint working for someone else, also id like to point out the fact that often the skills that people who work for themselves have they developed working for someone else. plus their are reasons ppl may choose to work for someone else, for example i have a friend who runs a small builders firm, some months he will bring home £20,000 some months he will bring home next to nothing, whilst on the otherhand i have another friend who works as a builder for a company and he brings home around £10,000 a month every month. so obviously he has more stability working for someone else. and on top of that their are some people myself included for which working for someone else is a good thing due to the simple fact that i and many people i know, lack the self motivation to work for ourselves and if we did work for ourselves we would prob end up homeless

rhizome 04-27-2007 12:57 PM

I like how all the same old failures who continually jump from program to program feel the need to defend their ineptitude in this thread.

Klen 04-27-2007 12:59 PM

I agree with dirty franck, but sometime you need to work for someone else to gain initial capital to start your own bussiness.

rotowa85 04-27-2007 01:02 PM

id also like to point out the fact that alot of the ppl who you think work for themselves prob dont, even ppl at the top of a company still work for the share holders.
