Wordpress One Click Upgrades....new plugin

hey all, for those of you that don't know, there is a one click upgrade plugin for wordpress

takes about 10 minutes to install, requires some ftping in and chmod access, but WELL worth it

http://www.zirona.com/software/wordp...nstant-upgrade

you go in and chmod all the core files to 777, then click to upgrade, and when you do that it takes over the files and chmods them back to normal, so the files don't stay at 777, and upgrades to whatever the most stable wordpress version is...

I use it on all my blogs and have never had any issues

It's Mighty Seek, here is the link.
I can't figure out how to load the thing with content.
Thanks, if you can help.

it looks like you just load the content on your server and just tell the plugin where the media is, underneath the posting box

very nice!

Got it...I Thought I could take directly from the source, like iTunes.
Thanks

it looks like you can specify a media file from any url, so you can make anything a podcast :)

EURBottomLine 04-20-2007 03:48 PM

I'll hit you up for some mixes if you want, give you a couple of plugs...proly won't mean much, new domain, not much traffic yet.
Let me know if your interested.

What I don't get is this: I have had no issues upgrading any wordpress site I have. It takes about 5 minutes. The only thing that is special for me is that i don't use 101 wonky plugins or add-ons.

Every wordpress upgrade (and holy fuck have there ever been enough of those) has been totally pain free and without issue (knock wood).

it is nice for me because I don't have to spend time ftping to 200 different places and uploading....i log in while I am doing my regular updates and hit "update", takes literally 2 seconds

RawAlex 04-20-2007 06:32 PM

Jace, don't you have to first log in and set all the files to 777?

well, the first time you install the script, yeah

but once you do it the first time then the plugin runs and attaches itself to every file and chmod's it again back to what it needs to be

the chmod to 777 is a one time thing while installing

The instructions said it would do that, but they also said to chmod the blog root to 777. I did but when I go back and check the files after the auto upgrade, the root dir is still 777 the other files seem to be back to the original settings.

Did you notice the same?

Also I noticed his download files are all messed up. I tried to D/L the zip file and it only had a single file in it. So I downloaded the tar file which seemed to have all the files.

However it didn't include the "work" folder. So just out of a hunch I made a folder in the wp-content/plugins/instantupgrade/ dir and chmod it to 777 and the upgrade worked fine.

So the plug in seems to work fine but he should re-check his files and instructions because they are a bit incomplete. Other than that it seems to work like a charm.

crockett 04-25-2007 08:29 AM

btw even with the issues I had I don't think it took me 10 mins to install and run the script.

starpimps 04-25-2007 09:10 AM

3 minutes to install x 20 blogs = an hour

vs alot more time upgrading manually...thanks jace

Looks like you can pick and choose what version to upgrade to. Has a option to type in the version number.
