Another shooting, this time at NASA

HOUSTON, Texas (CNN) -- NASA evacuated a building at the Johnson Space Center in Houston after an employee with a gun was seen and a shot was fired, a NASA spokesman said Friday.

A SWAT team with the Houston Police has been dispatched to building 44 on the Johnson Space Center property, a source told CNN. Building 44 holds a laboratory.

The call for help came in to the Houston Police at 1:40 p.m. (2:40 p.m. ET) but it's unclear who made that call.

NASA spokesman James Hartfield said all of the employees that would have been in that building have been evacuated.

There is "extremely tight security" at Johnson Space Center, Hartfield said.

A NASA spokesperson told CNN that all employees have been told to go home for the day.

Space Center Intermediate School, less than a mile south of building 44, has been locked down, said Karen Permetti, spokeswoman for Clear Creek Independent School District.

She said the school lets out at 4 p.m. (5 p.m. ET) and parents have been asked not to come to the school to pick up their children.

The school has about 1,200 students, according to the school district.

They had UNR on lockdown last night. Guards at all dorms, all classes cancelled because a guy sent a text msg to a relative that the guy doing the shootings at VA Tech was his hero and that he was off on a mission.

Goverment building, same as school. Firearms are not allowed.

Wonder why these places are picked, there's your answer.

I'll ask you this, do you believe everyone should be packing at all times. ie gun in your holster shit like that? everywhere you go???

EBORG9 04-20-2007 02:02 PM

Guns or no guns...you cannot stop crazy people. If not a gun, then a car through the front door, or a Ryder truck full of Diesel, and Manure, or a postal bomb.
There are 6 billion people on this planet and 350 million in the U.S.
Some of them are NUTS.
Be thankful it's a small minority and not a large percentage.

Yep, you are 100% correct. But some of our posters are afraid of firearms, it's understandable.

I want someone to answer my question, should you be allowed to pack heat all the time. Meaning always on you??

Alky 04-20-2007 02:10 PM

I have been to Nasa a few times and I am pretty sure there are people carrying guns there.

There is some shit to protect there...

The news is also reporting that the space command center is right across the street, truthfully ... it isn't public knowledge where it's at ... it has been moved to a underground location some place on that property though.

Do you want me to take a picture of the gun on my hip right now?

Did it for years. But no holster, small of back works just fine. :winkwink: The one auto parts store I managed 85% of the employees packed everyday. The owner encouraged it. We all had our Permits, and every Sunday we had little shooting competitions at the owners place. Most of the community knew everyone had guns in the store. Guess what. Never got robbed there, but stores within miles of us got held up on a regular basis.

Ok so Imagine this, yes mass shootings probably would not happen as much. However, what about the local baseball game, tempers flare and guns are pulled. Bar fights turn into gun fight because every mofo has a fucking gun. People who are pissed off and have a gun close is NOT a good thing :2 cents:

Please don't take this the wrong way Bryan, but you are ignorant.

If you have the right to carry a Concealed Weapon in the state of Florida (and other states), you have to follow rules.

No weapons in parks.
No weapons at sporting events.
No weapons in Bars or anywhere where the main business is selling alcohol.

I want to add, there are many more places you are not allowed to carry your firearm into.

School Grounds
Goverment Buildings
Police Stations

and the list goes on.

The question I asked was should they be allowed AT ALL TIMES to carry a gun. You even said in the thread above yes as long as they are law abiding.

FUCK NO! I don't trust half the people on the street driving!
Too many different mentalities in the general population.

Look at all the idiots on the road, at the bar or the club, at the supermarket, working at 7-11's, driving trucks, just walking around in the general population.
You wanna give everyone without a felony the right to walk around with deadly force?
Are YOU nuts? Most people can't navigate a left turn with the radio up loud!

Talk to Splum about being dumb dude, he is the one I am referring to. Look at his sig. He says the school shooting would have not happened if students could carry guns. Last time I looked all students were in schools. So I guess he feels they should be allowed to carry them everywhere regardless of what the law says.

BTW man your insults are priceless :thumbsup

Thanks, I try to be original in my insults, mix in subject matter with some literary flair. :thumbsup

Splum, if you didn't know, is reverse trolling all of you regarding guns, and the shooting at VTech.

I fully believe that all adults should be allowed to carry, where allowed by law.

Or maybe he thinks that particular law should be changed? That was a case where the "LAW" prohibited law abiding citizens the chance to defend themselves against a NON law abiding citizen.. Think about it. How many people in the building do you think were wishing they had a gun so they had a chance to continue living?

Guns are fun. Goto an automated walk through target range sometime. I dont know of any here in TN, though Im sure there are some. There was one up in PA. You had like 3 to 5 minutes to walk through and shoot out targets that popped up. Was the standard innocent vs criminal type course. Quite a blast (pun intended) :thumbsup

Brad 04-20-2007 02:48 PM

I think I'm going to buy me a gun this weekend. I've always wondered what it would be like to be a vigilante. You know, I’ll go and ice some hookers and then head down to the local jail and get rid of some of those guys too. Courts and lawyers are for pussies…that’s what I always say anyways. Plus, having a gun is perfect for everyday life too; you never know when some crazy person is going to hold up the local Quickie Mart or grocery store.

LeslieSharp 04-20-2007 02:50 PM

Shit, how did you beat me to this one? My brother works there and I got this from him:

Just to let you know that there's a hostage situation in building #44 in
JOHNSON SPOACE CENTER, and in case you were wondering... I'm okay. That building was evacuated and its barricaded. The shooter is going
nowhere.

First, an astroNUT... now a psycho with a gun...... I need to update my
resume......

You'll hear all the details later at the news. Have a good weekend.

Ted Nugent on CNN

Quote:

WACO, Texas (CNN) -- Zero tolerance, huh? Gun-free zones, huh? Try this on for size: Columbine gun-free zone, New York City pizza shop gun-free zone, Luby's Cafeteria gun-free zone, Amish school in Pennsylvania gun-free zone and now Virginia Tech gun-free zone.

Anybody see what the evil Brady Campaign and other anti-gun cults have created? I personally have zero tolerance for evil and denial. And America had best wake up real fast that the brain-dead celebration of unarmed helplessness will get you killed every time, and I've about had enough of it.

Nearly a decade ago, a Springfield, Oregon, high schooler, a hunter familiar with firearms, was able to bring an unfolding rampage to an abrupt end when he identified a gunman attempting to reload his .22-caliber rifle, made the tactical decision to make a move and tackled the shooter.

A few years back, an assistant principal at Pearl High School in Mississippi, which was a gun-free zone, retrieved his legally owned Colt .45 from his car and stopped a Columbine wannabe from continuing his massacre at another school after he had killed two and wounded more at Pearl.

At an eighth-grade school dance in Pennsylvania, a boy fatally shot a teacher and wounded two students before the owner of the dance hall brought the killing to a halt with his own gun.

More recently, just a few miles up the road from Virginia Tech, two law school students ran to fetch their legally owned firearm to stop a madman from slaughtering anybody and everybody he pleased. These brave, average, armed citizens neutralized him pronto.

My hero, Dr. Suzanne Gratia Hupp, was not allowed by Texas law to carry her handgun into Luby's Cafeteria that fateful day in 1991, when due to bureaucrat-forced unarmed helplessness she could do nothing to stop satanic George Hennard from killing 23 people and wounding more than 20 others before he shot himself. Hupp was unarmed for no other reason than denial-ridden "feel good" politics.

She has since led the charge for concealed weapon upgrade in Texas, where we can now stop evil. Yet, there are still the mindless puppets of the Brady Campaign and other anti-gun organizations insisting on continuing the gun-free zone insanity by which innocents are forced into unarmed helplessness. Shame on them. Shame on America. Shame on the anti-gunners all.

No one was foolish enough to debate Ryder truck regulations or ammonia nitrate restrictions or a "cult of agriculture fertilizer" following the unabashed evil of Timothy McVeigh's heinous crime against America on that fateful day in Oklahoma City. No one faulted kitchen utensils or other hardware of choice after Jeffrey Dahmer was caught drugging, mutilating, raping, murdering and cannibalizing his victims. Nobody wanted "steak knife control" as they autopsied the dead nurses in Chicago, Illinois, as Richard Speck went on trial for mass murder.

Evil is as evil does, and laws disarming guaranteed victims make evil people very, very happy. Shame on us.

Already spineless gun control advocates are squawking like chickens with their tiny-brained heads chopped off, making political hay over this most recent, devastating Virginia Tech massacre, when in fact it is their own forced gun-free zone policy that enabled the unchallenged methodical murder of 32 people.

Thirty-two people dead on a U.S. college campus pursuing their American Dream, mowed-down over an extended period of time by a lone, non-American gunman in possession of a firearm on campus in defiance of a zero-tolerance gun ban. Feel better yet? Didn't think so.

Who doesn't get this? Who has the audacity to demand unarmed helplessness? Who likes dead good guys?

I'll tell you who. People who tramp on the Second Amendment, that's who. People who refuse to accept the self-evident truth that free people have the God-given right to keep and bear arms, to defend themselves and their loved ones. People who are so desperate in their drive to control others, so mindless in their denial that they pretend access to gas causes arson, Ryder trucks and fertilizer cause terrorism, water causes drowning, forks and spoons cause obesity, dialing 911 will somehow save your life, and that their greedy clamoring to "feel good" is more important than admitting that armed citizens are much better equipped to stop evil than unarmed, helpless ones.

Pray for the families of victims everywhere, America. Study the methodology of evil. It has a profile, a system, a preferred environment where victims cannot fight back. Embrace the facts, demand upgrade and be certain that your children's school has a better plan than Virginia Tech or Columbine. Eliminate the insanity of gun-free zones, which will never, ever be gun-free zones. They will only be good guy gun-free zones, and that is a recipe for disaster written in blood on the altar of denial. I, for one, refuse to genuflect there.
