Would you buy anything Refurbished?

Like a camera? Or has anyone on here ever bought something refurbished?

DeanCapture 04-18-2007 01:59 PM

I've never bought anything refurbished. But most companies will give you a full warranty if you purchased a refurbished model. Your thinking of a refurbished camera?

Belinda 04-18-2007 02:04 PM

So it would be better to go through the company or do you think ebay is safe? Not sure if I would buy one or not just curious. I REALLY need a camera, both mine are sinking fast.

Dirty F 04-18-2007 02:05 PM

Do you ever think that you are as fucked up in your head as Donny?

azurecash 04-18-2007 02:06 PM

Why Yes I Would

I have bought a lot of good stuff refurbished. Check the manufacturer warranty on it first.

theruyan 04-18-2007 02:23 PM

I wouldn't buy anything refurbished from ebay. But that's just my opinion.

Buying refurbished directly from the company is sometimes ok and sometimes not, depends on the reputation of the company.

Do some google on the camera you want and look for reviews from people who have bought refurbished from the company.

Axeman 04-18-2007 02:30 PM

I have bought a few things refurbished but would be Leary about Ebay just because of the warranty situation.

hezochiah 04-18-2007 02:31 PM

I would buy something used through a place like B&H before I bought it from EBay. But hey, if the seller has great feedback and it seems like a good deal than why not. I've never had to use it but if it's a Paypal auction I'm pretty sure they have buyer protection too...

After Shock Media 04-18-2007 02:32 PM

Sure I would, hell even my previous girls have came refurbished (well except 1 who turned into a psycho freak)

bobby666 04-18-2007 02:32 PM

my wife was refurbished when i bought her ....

notabook 04-18-2007 02:35 PM

Oh definitely, most refurbished items will outperform their newer counterparts easily and most have a decent warranty. Just look at the Apple ipods, the refurbished ones have the SAME warranty as the new ones but are much cheaper.

As for buying off of eBay… I can’t really recommend refurb stuff off of eBay because a lot of businesses won’t warrant any items bought off of eBay.

DocYall 04-18-2007 02:36 PM

If you buy a refurbished unit from a store or directly from the manufacturer you usually get full warranty, or you can get a service plan from the store you buy it from. For warranty purposes they are generally treated like new units, so if it breaks you'll either get it fixed or get a new one.

Refurbished units are usually repaired units from warranty. My experience with electronics in general is that they will likely break once, but that's it. If the refurbished unit is a repaired unit, then that one time break is out of the way.

Purchasing refurbished can be a great way to score a deal (eBay aside).

mattz 04-18-2007 02:37 PM

I bought "refurbished" game for nitendo Wii, it works fine and was half the price :)

mattz 04-18-2007 02:38 PM

Also, the first time I moved out when I didn't have much money to spare, I bought all refurbished furniture and stuff for the house, worked out fine without any problem.

I'm not sure I would buy a refurbished camera though...

CherryLipsRosa 04-18-2007 02:45 PM

ztik 04-18-2007 03:19 PM

it's a pro body . . I only have 2 lenses and I need them + they cost serious $$ :) . . once you shoot with a nikon pro body you'll be really amazed . . and yes it's in great shape . . I'm only selling cause I'm slowing down on my shooting . . moving into a new area of artistic 'en devour' . . selling mostly everything I have, keeping just enough to do a few shoots once in a while

Jinx 04-18-2007 04:21 PM

Hell yah if it has a warrenty.

beemk 04-18-2007 04:22 PM

i wouldnt do ebay, but from an authorized dealer that can supply a warrenty you're good.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 04-18-2007 04:23 PM

yeah, i bought my mac ibook refurbished on ebay, works great

Jman 04-18-2007 04:23 PM

I have a refurbished Fleshlight for sale ;-)

tony286 04-18-2007 04:24 PM

Word of advice ,have bought refurbed things and they were great. One yr bought a refurb computer and it was a nightmare. After the fact did a search on the model number and turns out it had all kinds of problems. So do a model check before hand.

RyuLion 04-18-2007 04:37 PM

I'm not afraid of buying refurb. as they are sometimes better than the new ones because the bug was already found and is fixed.

Vendzilla 04-18-2007 04:46 PM

alot of times refurbished means it got a scratch during shipping and needed a new decal to cover it up, I use to refurbish coke vending machines, they worked better than new ones and had better paint

The Sultan Of Smut 04-18-2007 04:48 PM

I bought a refurbished 21" monitor years ago and it lasted me 5 years without a problem then I sold it :)

Martina Warren 04-18-2007 04:56 PM

I would but not from Ebay!

Shot with the D1x and D1 for years, the only thing I hated was the size and weight of the camera with lens on it. Price to pay for a good camera though. Can you post a pic you shot with the d2h?

rowan 04-18-2007 05:09 PM

I have a refurbished hard drive :helpme It was a replacement for a failed drive that I mailed in. Here's a pic showing the difference between a "new" and refurbished drive.

Hubby and I have 6 Sony RA's that are all refurbished from Ubids...

BEST damn decision we made..

Hubby also has the Sony Alpha Camera... refurbished from Comp USA... 20% off the refurbished price because they're closing down here too...

And some people say the Alpha is better than the Canon 20d...

So.. we were pleased :)
Just be wise.

Sony is the shit. I just bought a little point-n-shoot Sony for $299 that kicks my Canon point-n-shoots ass!

the d200 shoots nice, I get lots of OOF shots, and bad framing with the d200 . . and I do not enjoy shooting the d200 at all.

I have 1 client that wants a file size of 3000 on a side so I use the d200 . . I could just re-szie the damn pix and use the d2hs I suppose :)

the d2hs is a real dream to shoot
