Planning a Europe trip, need advice (Croatia, Italy, Spain)

Ok the trip will be in Sept.

Croatia (Dubrovnik) 5.5 days

Italy (Venice, Rome) 4.5 days

Spain (Barcelona) 4.5

Need to know a few things.

1) How long a drive is it from Dubrovnik to Venice

2) Is Venice a cool place to stop for 1-2 days or just go straight to Rome

3) How far is the drive from Venice to Rome?

- Thinking a cool road trip through Croatia and Italy could be fun

4) What are the local airlines in Italy or Spain to fly out of, need URL's also

5) How does Euro Rail work to get around on trains, what pass do we need for Dubrovnik to Rome or Venice

Any help would be apreciated.

thanks in advance.

slapass 04-16-2007 06:39 PM

Did Venice to Rome on the train in like 4 hours or so... the site for the euro rail should give times. The train system totally rocked for us. We had time to hang out and plan the next move on the train.
Venice is worth 2 days but any more then that and it gets old. Rome is one huge museum. Not much fun for me but very cool to see.

The flights in Europe are super cheap if you use their discount airline. They do not assign seats you just get what you get and you are packed in. I think an overnight train trip would have been cooler as you land in these out of the way airports and blow extra cash or time on bus/taxi.

Have fun! :thumbsup Don't miss the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.

perfectodollars-gabrio 04-17-2007 01:08 AM

one recommendation: NEVER GET FLIGHTS with ALITALIA, they are in bankrupt and they often cancel flights and so on.

Hi Dave a few things before you go on your vacation. First, in Dubrovnik stay just a 2 days, it will be enough to see everything what you need, than go to Makarska or Baska Voda the most beautiful beaches, very clean see. Take in Makarska ticket for cruise trip and visit Adriatic islands, Hvar, Brac (one day). If you want to enjoy in great night life than you must visit Belgrade (minimum 2 days). You can go to Belgrade from Tivat airport in Montenegro (near Dubrovnik). From Belgrade you can go where you want. My recommendation, take a rent-a-car on Dubrovnik airport, you must book it earlier. Have fun :)

SleazyDream 04-17-2007 01:41 AM

the only way i'd drive though europe is in a tank.

planes, trains and taxies for me :2 cents:

Shoehorn! 04-17-2007 01:43 AM

I've been to all of those places and I can tell you that you are in for a treat. :thumbsup

Gentle_Ben 04-17-2007 01:46 AM

the Spanish national airline is Iberia.com, but to Italy there are probably good low cost carriers if you look around.

Hit me up if you have any Spain questions. I live in Barcelona :thumbsup

Hey, I had Euro trip last year!
My advice:Croatia-Italy with a car, will take about 6h most.Don't stay in Venice more than 1 day!!One day will be enough, spend your time in Rome, it is wonderful.I can't help you with the airlines, but you better go with car, because that way, you will have chance to visit Milan and Verona.Dubrovnik rulles! It's absolutely great:people, food, lovely girls:thumbsup :thumbsup And of course Spain!Barcelona, you must be there at least 3 days!I was amazed from that city. There are so many things to see and enjoy:) If you have any questions, please ask me:thumbsup

Too bad you arent passing by Milan =P
Anyways, venice is always good to see, and it can be seen in 2 days if you skip the museums, and just superficially look at it....

I'm too lazy to type now... if you need info, just shoot me an email

And every thing about them sucks the worst airline I have ever flown.

Michael O 04-17-2007 06:35 AM

For low cost airlines in Europe go to http://www.momondo.com
Or use http://www.Iberia.com which is the Spanish Airline.

Thanks for the info and the airlines...

I got pleanty of questions to add to this thread, have a few important meetings today away from the office so will add to this thread later in the evening my time est. time zone.

I'm starting to think longer Barcelona, Rome, perhaps cut down on Dubrovnik and do a few other cities in Croatia also and not just one.

My Mom is from Croatia and Dad from Slovania thus why I wanted to spend extra time there. I understand all croatian and can speak some also so I think that will make the trip better knowing the language when I stay there.

For those of you that know Phoenix he is the person joining me on my European travels.

Fuck no, stay away from Finland. People here are quiet and nothing ever happens. Summertime is nice, but the cities are dead..everyone's gone to their summer cabins.
Finland's a piece of shit expensive country, almost as horrible as Italy.

Besides reindeer is fucking awesome, kinda pricey though.

Platinum Dave 04-17-2007 07:17 AM

How far away driving distance is Venice / Milan / Rome

reason I say do some driving is not to save money but the experience of driving through another country in europe is fun for me.

I was in Berlin last Sept and rented a car and went on a 4 hour drive to check out Neuschwanstein castle which was an awesome day trip.

:1orglaugh :1orglaugh That is an answer that every good patriot would give:1orglaugh You are not objective my friend.Having 3-4 anorexic blonds does not make your city look "a great place to spend money"

my advice : if that happens again, just tell him to fuck off and leave the place without paying nothing... catalans are chicken shit but they mostly count on the fact that 99% of the tourists will pay without saying a word...
