I'm from Israel and moved to my new apartment 3 months ago, the rent is in USD$$$$, and I prepay every 3 months in advanced, now because the USD$ is down (BIG TIME, down %20 since last year) versus the Israeli currency he wants me to make up the differenceand if I don't he won't install an AC in the apartment and won't install window screens and some other shit....
Now I need to look for a new apartment and fuck this french POS landlord.....

contract says $500....but the AC, window screens etc are not on the lease...he just promised it before we moved here.

Then call your attorney and let him settle and live out your lease for $500 a month... That simple...

If the price was agreed in US$, then it should be his problem (would he lower it if the $ was strong).

I had the same thing in Hungary a couple of times. I rented in Euro's and when the exchange rate was bad, the landlord would be giving me stories about how though things were for him.

Of course when the exchange was good, he never said a thing.

the problem is the fucker is blackmailing me, if I won't pay the difference (which is around extra $200 every 2-3 month) he wont put the shit he promised (not on paper) and I won't be able to live in this shithole....

Buy a window AC. Screens are cheap. It's a pain but do a little yourself, take all the crap with you when you move or sell it back to him for rent.

I guess this is another reason why I'm fine living in a country where things like the Landlords & Tenants act exists, the office of the rentalsman, etc. No landlord would get away with charging tenants in USD here, not sure why he can do it there. Isn't there some governing agency in Israel for this that can force him to get his head out of his ass?

I'm a landlord, in Canada, and I can only imagine what prospective tenants would say if I declared that rent was to be paid in US funds, and that I want more because of the lousy exchange. LOL
