Transylvanian castle famous for its connections to the 15th century medieval ruler who inspired "Dracula" for 60 million euros, or $78 million

WarChild 04-14-2007 10:52 AM

It's not actually Dracula's castle. The actual castle lies in ruins.

Poenari is the real castle of Vlad Tepes, better known as Dracula !
Poenari is the ruins of a fortress ("cetate" in Romanian) rather than a castle, located at the entrance to the gorge of the Arges River, north of the town of Curtea de Arges. Poenari was the castle fortification that Vlad Tepes forced the nobles of Tirgoviste to build.
This is where, according to another local legend, Vlad Tepes' first wife flung herself, committing suicide rather than being taken captive by the advancing Turks. This castle is where Vlad would go for refuge in the face of advancing enemies. And from its towers he had a commanding view of anyone approaching from any direction . On top of that the fortress was practically impenetrable.

xclusive 04-14-2007 11:16 AM

Not Draculas castle as mentioned but would be pretty cool to own.

Kevsh 04-14-2007 11:18 AM

I was there in October, but to be honest I was a *little* disappointed - Peles Castle was much more impressive ... no pics but search on Google and you'll see what I mean.

TeenCat 04-14-2007 11:20 AM

Hey "Teenkid"
Read through the rules of this board.
Nothing I have read about wasting database space as far I can see.
But I did read this you might wanna check it out ok?
3. Anything goes, except do not post people's personal information, or attack people personally, stick to the issues. Also don't post links to illegal sites. And WHOIS information is public info, it is not considered personal information. So don't bitch at us if you put your home address as your personal info on WHOIS. Calling someone a Pedo, Refferring to them as a Pedo, post Pedo links, and Death Threats are now grounds for immediate banning.
So go away now and play....:2 cents:

The Ninth Configuration...hmmmmmm?
Oh yeah you mean that 80's movie
In a castle on a remote island in the Pacific, insane army soldiers are sent for treatment. Psychiatrist Col. Kane's (Keach) discovers his own need for therapy through the treatment of his patients.
Thats a good interesting question.

WOW First off very cool if you can post some pics that would rock:thumbsup
Secondly lets take a closer look at "Peles Castle" hmmmmm....Looks cool.
It was built in the year 1873 by Carol I, King of Romania.
The location of Peles Castle compliments
the beauty of the Carpathian Mountains,
and it blends in with the natural back drop
Nowadays, it is a museum well worth taking the time to visit.

Bloomer 04-14-2007 04:22 PM

Thats a rockin Castle:thumbsup
Now for people who arent Multi lingual let me put it in English a lil bit:winkwink:
Karlstein Castle differs entirely from other 14th century castles and also from the other founded by the same person. In Prague Charles IV built a family, royal and imperial residence based on the genius Ioci, Kasperk and Radyne as watch castles, Lauf at Nuremberg and Tangermunde in the center of the imperial feoffs and domains and other big and small castles as hunting seats or places to halt at on journeys.

At Karlstein, however, Charles IV fully developed in architectural forms the whole complicated system of his world outlooks and ideas on state, the ideology of the monarchal powers of the Czech king and his imperial dignity. His richly developed mystic thinking and feeling, his allegorical fantasy and the high demands he placed on culture predetermined the building programme of the castle. The foundation stone of Karlstein was laid in 1348 and the main building works lasted to 1356, the year of Charle's coronation as emperor. Charles Iv devoted care to the rich interior decoration of the castle until the time of his death on 1378.:thumbsup

The castle was built 400 years after "Dracula" died. Myth aside, he'd really have to be undead, in order to stay there.

Pumba 04-16-2007 10:17 AM

I bought Draculas Castle - in my dreams.

blonda80 04-16-2007 10:48 AM

Goodings Media 04-17-2007 12:02 AM

My next door neighbour at uni owns a Napoleonic Fort in Cornwall, he lives in a mansion on the grounds. It gets rented out for weddings and stuff to big rich dudes, and that cost quite far into the millions!

He throws the most awesome parties too.....

Anyways, this place looks the tits.

$50 paypal
