Freedom of speech has just been thrown in the garbage. MSNBC cancels Imus.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17999196/

But yet there are hate whitey radio shows, hypocrite al sharpton, still on the air....

Freedom of speech just lost this one...

Splum 04-11-2007 03:52 PM

Fucking n*ggers are out of control, they just increased racism ten fold with this little witch hunt.
They are just trying to get liberals to guilt vote for Obama.

This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. A private or publicly held corporation or organization that if it feels it is not in there best interest to broadcast certain material they have the right to remove that material. The FCC has the power to censor and yes I mean censor the public airwaves. This the law.

The FCC has no authority to censor satellite or cable broadcasts.

Yeah.. then why is all that rap crap still allowed to be on the air? Why aren't all those radio stations being picketed and forced to stop airing that crap? This whole thing stinks and pisses me off.

pocketkangaroo 04-11-2007 04:36 PM

MSNBC has the choice to put whoever they want on the air. Sure it's stupid and they overexxagerated. Sure it's hypocritical for a station that let Ann Coulter and other hate spewing people on the air. But they lost advertisers and felt they needed to do it. It has nothing to do with free speech, he can say whatever he wants, just as you or I can.

It has everything to do with free speech. He is being punish because of what has said.

He is being punished because of his words. Dont spin what happened.

LiveDose 04-11-2007 05:53 PM

To them it is a business decision. Nothing else.

Do you think the board gives a flying fuck about feelings?

It's all about the ADVERTISNG baby!

you are correct. He is being punished for what he said. They aren't telling him he can't say what he said, they are just telling him he can't say what he said on their channel. Do I find it hypocritical? Sure. They have other controversial people on, but there were big companies like Staples pulling their ads from his show. They mad a business decision and dumped him.

He is still free to say whatever he wants, but MSNBC isn't required by law to provide him a platform.

aico 04-11-2007 07:07 PM

Freedom of Speech has nothing to do with it.

I think XM learned their lesson when they gave 50 million to Oprah and it didn't increase subscriptions at all. I imagine if Imus loses the radio show there will be someone that offers him a job for less money, but he will most likely retire.

AaronM 04-11-2007 07:19 PM

Talk-show host Don Imus triggered the uproar on his April 4 show, when he referred to the mostly black Rutgers women’s basketball team as “nappy-headed hos.”

LOL...Now that's golden.

A company can put whoever the fuck they want on the air. They don't owe shit to Imus, you, or me. They do what they think is best for their bottom line.

You are acting as if you should be entitled to be on the air. If Imus wants to be, he can setup his own radio station, his own antennas, and broadcast it on his own dime. No one is stopping him from doing it. But when you work for someone else, you play by their rules.

thebestdamnsexshow 04-11-2007 08:49 PM

Yep it was more of a business move.. Sponsors dropping they dont want that.. Some of you guys cool out was the racist talk.. we are adults in here..

jerzeemedia 04-11-2007 09:27 PM

So let me get this straight, white guy slings a slur about black women, bad. Black guy slings a slur about white guy or white woman, funny. So I'm confused, who's oppressed now?

pr0 04-11-2007 09:41 PM

How can a simple observation be seen as a racial attack?

Obviously if the team was mostly comprised of african american women....a good portion of them probably had nappy hair. In fact earlier in the week before they had their hair straightened, i would venture to say most of them had nappy hair.

Secondly...everyone knows college basketball teams are notorious for their sexual escapades off the court. Growing up next to a university, i can say with all certainty, the men & womens basketball teams were in fact the biggest group of sexual degenerates i had ever met in my life. I saw some odd shit from the time i was 15 & started going to their parties.

So....nappy headed most of them, & almost certainly ho's.

I'd say he was shooting 80% that night with truth.

Anyone care to share with me how this was beyond reasonable logic? Without delving into manners & politically correct nonsense.

Imus...take this one to the supreme court for reverse discrimination if you lose your radio feed (not just your msnbc spot). I'll see if i can get the ACLU to get your back on this one buddy.

Fuck...i can't wait till its illegal to call a fat person...fucking fat. You'll have to refer to me as SIR, & make no reference to my apparent physical description whatsoever, or be subject to criminal prosecution.

Then you'll all realize just how trivial your "correctness" was.

We might as well start branding our wrists with #'s.......

dropped9 04-12-2007 06:41 PM

It's a strange world. Imus has said much worse in the past and had nothing done about it. I listen to Howard Stern and he said when they both worked for the same station Imus called Robin (from Stern's show) a hahahahahaha and he called another black woman that worked as a secretary a hahahahahaha, yet was never fired. I think the only reason he was fired is because sponsor's started pulling out of his show. His show was already doing terribly in the ratings and they were paying him a pretty big salary considering the dismal ratings so I'm pretty sure CBS isn't shedding a tear over this.

WELL.... The FCC had NOTHING to do with this one... it was his fellow media ppl that blew this one all out of whack... Imus made the comment LAST WEDS. No one heard about it till the WEEKEND :1orglaugh Kind of like a "joke time bomb"

The ONLY Reason this went so apeshit is because Al and Jesse rode the coat tails and raised holy hell about it.... Jesse said publicly years ago "Heimy Town" regarding Jews, and we all know what a 'stand up guy' Al is.

The FCC did not get involved one bit... why? because the words NAPPY HEADED HOES is NOT something they felt / feel the need to censor.

Imus lost his job due to MONEY! The sponsors started to pull out BECAUSE of all the horrible negative press.

And this DOES have EVERYTHING to do with FREE SPEECH! because Imus lost his job over 3 words, 15 letters, 5 syllables.

I personally don't like Don Imus, and I don't agree with what he said, but I will defend his right to say it.

three words spoken should not = loosing his job (AND The media has said often this week he needs MORE of a punishment, such as JAIL TIME)

Now TELL ME how this is NOT about The Freedom Of Speech

-Loki-

Loki 04-13-2007 02:58 AM

oh and just in case anyone gives a shit... Imus's show IS on right now, being hosted by his wife Deidre Imus & Charles McCord (Imus's News Man) You can listen to the live stream free on Wfan.com by going to their main page and clicking on the Streaming link http://www.wfan.com/index.php or use the direct link to the web player: http://cbsplayer.streamtheworld.com/...ALLSIGN=WFANAM

They are on the last 4 hours of the Charity Marathon and have said they WILL be delving into Don's Firing.

I agree with ya. They can do what they want. Why should we care?

ry0t 04-13-2007 09:19 AM

There is a difference between freedom of speech for the every day person and what should be shown to millions of people on the TV and radio.

DaddyHalbucks 04-13-2007 10:02 AM

Sharpton just announced plans to crack down on rap lyrics and boycott rap artists.

Yea, right. Keep on dreamin'

I've been following this for almost a week now. I do see a sexist element in what he said, I don't see racism, though. Can anybody explain to me where the racism comes in. Some of the ho's were even white.

Fucking Jew (Gibson)
Maccaca (Sen. Allen)
Faggot (Coulter)
Boner-nosed, beanie-wearing Jewboy (Gwen Ifill)
Mexican Wetbacks (O'Reilly)
Halfrican American (Limbaugh)
Half Breds (Limbaugh)

_Richard_ 04-13-2007 10:43 AM

what is sad is Imus just donated the 1 million dollars to those kids today.. not much said about that.. or what he was doing the show on when he called those kids nappies..

they have one less 'semi-racist' funny guy. They have one less person who gives a shit about the children of the world.

Way to go "reverends". I'm sure God is REAL proud
