whats the best free message board script?
 

i already own a copy of vbulletin and its definitely the best script ever..

but i wanna open another board for a really small project and its not really worth paying another $160

whats the best free script out there?

I am happy with YaBB... Check it out. Very simple setup, very nice boards for a free script. I have one on my sites, if you're looking for an example: http://forum.blood-dolls.net (user forum, not a webmaster place).

PHPbb is far more stable than some of the other free boards out there ...

I really like Ikonboard and phpBB - both have great features and both are "theme-able".


The DiVX.Com Website uses phpBB for their forums and they have a nice skin they made to blend in with the rest of their site.


I've used both for a variety of things (besides adult), from running gaming based forums to setting forums up for mainstream clients running High School Reunions and I've never had major problems with either.

Not sure if this is true, but I heard a rumor that most of the team of Ikonboard left or got laid off due to financial problems. If this is true it certainly would affect future development of the board and any security patches that may be needed.
