Which windows OS do you prefer and why?
so which version do you prefer? I am running 98, xp PRO and 2000 PRO on 3 different machines but I am happiest with 2000 pro. Mac OS users need not apply (macs are cool but this is a windows only question so save the comments).

2000, because it's what i'm using... and it runs for weeks and months on end without any crashes or the need to reboot.
Of course, the same can be said about any OS, it the operator has the slightest clue what they're doing. |
I think you and I have discussed this before Ganja. I prefer XPpro over 2000pro but only just. I find them very similar in useability and accessability. XPpro seems just a bit more stable but that could have to do with the system I'm running and the programs I have installed.
:2 cents: |
I use Win2000 Pro at the office, WinXP Pro at home. I'm a bit happier with WinXP. I find it a bit cleaner and faster... and don't have to reboot nearly as much.
That's not to say I still don't have a few weird issues from time to time... |

I have had nothing but problems with XP pro so far. Maybe because its on a laptop but its a brand new dell so I figure it should run great. too bad.
The order for me would be: win2k win98 winXP |
WinXP cause it works.
In order ME 95 98 2k XP ME was and is a heap of shit. |
Win2k - I find it the most stable even if its not the best looking...
|
win98 and Win2K Pro.... I prefer and the use Win98 computer....
|
Win2K is the most stable. XP is good but has had some issues with regards to multimedia. 98 and ME are history as far as we are concerned...

Every other area though it gets a :thumbsup |
I am a vocal Mac user, but due to a couple of technicalities, I get to play too. I was a windows tech for years, and I boot Windows in VirtualPC to check various things and run AdultSubmitter. So there.
Anyhow, my answer is Windows98. If I have to use a MS operating system (bleh) I want it to be as simple and stable as possible. 95 is more simple, but less useful, so I go with 98. Has anyone else noticed that MS operating systems generally get *less* stable as you go? When 98 came out, people stuck with 95 for years because of stability. When 2000 came out, people stuck with 98 for a while. Now that XP is out, people are sticking with 2000. Has anyone noticed the pattern yet? Each generation is a worse OS, but eventually you have to upgrade to stay compatible... So the least-sucky place to be is the previous generation. Nice work, Redmond. Me, I upgrade (usually free) everty two months when there is a new revision of OS X. Nice stuff. Can't wait for my copy of Jaguar to arrive... |

2000 pro kicks ass.
It keeps on ticking... much better memory and program management. It's nice that when something acts up that it's easy to kill that process. Brad |
