GFY Focus Group - This Industry Isn't Fucked

Ok, this is the largest adult forum in the entire industry. There is no disputing that. While several big players have cut back on posting - we all know you're lurking :)

So, this is a good opportunity in my opinion for everyone to express their thoughts - not attack anyone - about the present state of things, where things are going and what can be done to circumvent negative elements; or turn them positive.

We as a whole have a lot to contend with. There have been several key people taking a stand on specific issues, but we all need to be on the same page.

Same page in adult? You might ask if that's even possible. I think it's not easy, but possible. Someone just said a week or so ago we are a reactive industry, and it's time for that to change in my own opinion.

Very few of us can afford (or even WOULD) throw money at things to make them go away, yet many of us ACT like we do or could.

Let's get real.

The only true way to stop things that are eating away at our profits is UNIFICATION.

Now, I'm not the most well-informed, knowledgable person on this board. I only halfway believe everything I read here and elsewhere until I see it first hand, but that's just how I am. As a result, I see the negative elements but I don't think I could ever list them all.

I have a feeling a lot of people are the same way. We're all very busy a lot of the time and all of our focus is on #1, our businesses running smoothly. THIS is exactly what the concept of community is FOR!

Let's work together on this. Who cares if it's something you want to keep for an "advantage" - that's being penny-wise and pound foolish.

What I'd like to see is everyone, and I mean EVERYONE posting in this thread about what they see as the top problems - and ideas to solve them! Suggestions are welcome! We've read a few times people suggesting a coalition representing webmasters - even a union! Let's see what we can come up with!

Synergy is certainly not a new concept, but it is powerful - let's use it to our advantage.

Thank you for your time and I hope you contribute!

Sure thing. I thought my initial post was already pretty long winded as it was and I didn't want to overwhelm people.

I'd like to start with Video Sites.

The porn YouTube-type sites. Do we think these are healthy for the industry and should we embrace them or is it just another tool for surfers to get even MORE free porn (of course it is - but will it affect sales is what I mean)?

I know the new 2257 laws coming into effect will minimize the splash damage these sites may cause - but let's face it; it applies only to US webmasters.

I think it's dangerously close to one of those things that hurts the industry but programs will have no choice but to cater to it just like several other affiliate tools simply because it has overall affiliate demand. Question is: is that a good thing or bad thing for the INDUSTRY?

Your turn :)

By the way I was planning on getting back to you on icq - but I have been having so many probs with ICQ. Hitting you up now.

there are so many youtube like sites so it's not really a question if we should embrace them or not....the're out there if you like it or not... in 1 year there will be 3x of them.

btw my icq is dead now too...ill get back to you whenever it feels like getting back online again.

Well, by "embrace" I meant cater to them with affiliate tools and affiliates utilize them for promoting site (thus giving away more video content).

However, this exchange right here by itself just proved to me how futile a thread like this really can seem. There's no stopping any individual from doing something in scale. There really is no way to get a hive mentality in an online economy.

Sure we can agree what is morally dispicable; yet there are people who will always do these things and as a result we all suffer. Short of illegal retaliation that noone has the time for in the first place, it's just soemthing we have to deal with and adapt to.

This thread was the product of some late-night pondering. I understand noone wanting to reply, it's silly. I need sleep - good night everyone :)
