phpBB HELP <--> Anti SPam MODs <--> whos got the cure <--> hottie (pics)

Im looking over some MODs here n there to try and keep the hordes of spam bots off of a forum.

Can anyone suggest something they have used tried and true?

Ill pull the hottest damned picture of whichever Bimini Girl you want from the private archives for each real suggestion I get...

dude, I had the same issue

I installed better captcha, I installed a secret question, I installed EVERYTHING...phpbb SUCKS for spam

I eventually enabled ADMIN registration, so now anyone that signs up gets an email sent to me, and I enable them manually....I have a disclaimer that says if they are a real person to email me at my email and tell me to allow them

Well I thought that would be a good solution. But the moderator dosnt want to manually do this. apparently they are ROLLING in new registrants...

Ill run this info by them though ...

What girl ?

1. read this http://spamhuntress.com/
2. rename the fields in the setup form and enter a new field with some thing stupid (what is 2+3 stuff) and make it required
3. disable the website field in the sign up form.
4. i hope that helps...

This may useful, I may be wrong but I think the moderator dosnt want the true surfers to be witness of this anti spam method, but perhaps a math question will be thought over again...its only a click...

What girl?

yeah, if they are doing a shitload of new registrations they shouldn't do that, it would annoy the fuck out of them

on that note, if there are that many new registrations, why in the world wouldn't he upgrade to vbulletin?

I use phpbb with mx-system portal and the code I'm using works by if a new user signs up with a sig and html on the first post they get deleted.

cones 04-10-2007 05:25 PM

if you have a high traffic board then switch to vbulletin, it the best forum script hands down. great anti spam features too.

cones 04-10-2007 05:27 PM

I just checked out www.vbulletin.com and the average response time for support is 16 minutes!!!!

jimbona 04-10-2007 05:36 PM

phpbbhacks.com/download/6864
phpbbhacks.com/download/6697

install them, spam will go to 0.
also remove any accounts registered by spam bots as they will just use them if they cannot reregister new accounts.

hope that helps.

would it be easy to move it over in phpBB place? or would it be drastic to the commnity if I changed it over?

A good mod for phpbb is called vbulletin.

phpbb blows hard. Any board that is getting any kind of decent traffic you should be running vbulletin.
