mpg compressing, need help
 

Hi!!

I'm pretty new at this with compress movies. I know about VirtualDub and DivX avi. :winkwink:

But how do I compress mpg movies?? What program (free) can I use for this. And what setting is best to use for movie galleries like this one:

And one last question, what program can I use to convert avi to mpg??

are you starting from a high quality source (minidv would be ideal)?

if you want to compress avi's to smaller avis go with virtualdub
if you want to compress mpegs or avis to mpg go with tmpgenc
if you want to edit and play around with the above and compress them somewhat go with vegas video (costs) or premiere (costs)

If you're thinking what I'm thinking, a whois report shows they're the same dude.

yes you can go with virtual dub for free but don't forget to buy commercial license if you'd like to use DivX codec:(
