Sopranos call time at 3:30am. How do people do this as a job??

Ok, so I am playing a waitress on a Sopranos episode and I called earlier tonight to get the "call" time and it said 3:30am! I am already fading! I cant believe people do this as a full time gig. :helpme

LiveDose 04-09-2007 11:55 PM

Are they shooting out in Vegas?

Amysworld 04-09-2007 11:56 PM

Yep. I was suprised they were still shooting since the season already started and there isnt another one. Go figure.

Jim_Gunn 04-09-2007 11:59 PM

You sure that is a legit gig? Chris Imperioli said on Leno recently that they had already wrapped and had a big party.

Well I was hired through a reputable casting company. I am telling you though, if I get to Ceasars and it isnt, I'm gonna be pissed.. lol.

Seriously though, there are like over 50 extras and blackjack dealers, croupiers (sp?), and a stand in for someone so it seems legit.

The company got me work on Kevin Spacey's new movie so I dont think they would B.S.

OzMan 04-10-2007 12:20 AM

How many days are they shooting there? My MIL is a huge fan and would definitely go down to check it out.

Jace 04-10-2007 12:31 AM

I don't even get up til 8pm some nights

it is just a different schedule than yours, doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure that one out

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 04-10-2007 12:32 AM

They do it for the money, and sometimes 3:30am is the only time you can shoot...I remember when parts of T2 were filmed in the Bay Area during the wee hours of the morning, since they had to shut down a section of a major freeway for filming.

You mean it's different to a normal 5am call? Only by 2 hours! :winkwink:

Violetta 04-10-2007 01:05 AM

Not sure. I am only working one day but sometimes they ask you to come back the next day and the next...

I dont know. Just seems you can get ANY sleep for a 3am call. I think I just wasnt expecting it. Now I get no sleep. :(

Marie 04-10-2007 01:28 AM

Still... it's pretty cool to be in a Sopranos Episode. Good luck Amy!

Hehe... plenty coffee and don't get bored hanging around - that can be a killer!

Have a good shoot and give some sympathy to the folks who run that production factory with constant 18 hour days :thumbsup

Haha... dont I know it. When I was working on the movie set a few months back for "21", a few of the days were from 6am - 11pm or later... gotta love double time after 12 hours.. woot! Not to mention that the people who worked on the set behind the scenes were there before we got there and after we left. That's tough!

Thanks so much!

When I used to edit news we had to be there at 3AM to start cutting the stories for the 5AM newscast. Definitely not the easiest schedule especially around the holidays.

Was that a normal work week? M - F, 3 - whenever? Must have been hell on your social life.

I'm pretty sure I saw something the other day where they were still shooting some stuff and were still editing about 3 or 4 episodes...

For about 2 years I worked weekends with different days off as people left and new people got hired. The worst was for about 5 months when I had Wednesday and Thursday off and Friday was my Monday. Nothing like going in for your Monday when everyone else is jacked up for the weekend.

Amysworld 04-10-2007 02:02 AM

Ok y'all.. time to jump in the shower and get ready!

Thanks GFY for keeping me up and occupied killing time.

Exactly - there are tons of people who work graveyard and early morning shifts - a lot of them for minimum wage, too.

I worked a 3am shift for ten years (not for minimum wage though lol) - the answer is, as almost anyone who does it will tell you: "You never get used to it, you just do it."

DaddyMustang 04-10-2007 02:24 AM

i like The Sopranos alot

God, those shoots are soooo fucking boring. I've been on the set of the sopranos a few times.

V_RocKs 04-10-2007 02:45 AM

Yeah, hurry up and wait, been there done that! But its easy money:winkwink:

RevSand 04-10-2007 02:52 AM

It might just be some pick up scenes... Even if they are "wrapped" 2nd unit might have some shots to pick up and on a show like that I am sure there were script revisions all the way into editing...

My guess is the 3:30am call time on a tuesday is since thats the only time they can shut down a section of the casino and allow it to me filmed.. Any other time would have too many people there...

They only use you to have a piece of ass on the set.

Slocums 04-10-2007 10:28 AM

we can make you a star....a cock star

Pete-KT 04-10-2007 10:34 AM

So what happened? this seems odd since sopranos is already done shooting for the season and there is nomore after this, Plus why would they shoot sopranos in Vegas?

edgeprod 04-10-2007 10:36 AM

It's probably for the Sopranos movie.

tony286 04-10-2007 10:36 AM

congrats have fun :)

SinisterStudios 04-10-2007 11:29 AM

Are you sure? They shot the last episode around the corner from my house a few weeks ago. When we were talking to the crew they told us this was the last shoot (except makeup stuff) Seems kinda weird since they were supposed to have wrapped up already

Amysworld 04-10-2007 12:55 PM

I got there at 3:30, got dressed into the Caesars cocktail uniform along with all the other girls and got checked in.

The story is as this.. they are either extending the last episode or adding filler to some of the ones still about to be played. They are still shooting tomorrow (same scene) and Thurs (girls in bikinis at the pool). This scene was Tony gambling and losing and then Tony winning. That's it.

I feel so sorry for those Caesars cocktail waitresses, after 9 hours, I was about to lose it in that corset.

OzMan 04-10-2007 01:08 PM

WebairGerard 04-10-2007 01:43 PM

NinjaSteve 04-10-2007 02:01 PM

Well that's pretty awesome! I'll be on the look out for you.

J. Falcon 04-10-2007 02:07 PM

Wow you're a star :)

NaughtyRob 04-10-2007 02:09 PM

Congrats on the part. Sounds like your saying stuff that you are not allowed to though. Did they make you sign something saying that you can't say anything about the show?

Kimmykim 04-10-2007 02:47 PM

One of my good friends is the AD for the first unit on The Office, talk about a whacked up schedule. Another one is the head colorist at one of the big post pro houses, and that's an even stranger schedule.

:thumbsup Lucky you didn't make a thread entitled "I just came back from the Hoover dam..I don't know how they built that, it's amazing!"

because people would be giving you civil engineering lectures on here instead. :)

That's pretty neat, have you done mainstream acting gigs before?
