link this site - it is a good cause

http://www.penniestoprotectpolicedogs.org/

The site is run by a girl in Florida who is trying to raise money to buy bullet proof vests for police dogs. So far she has raised over $150,000.00.

If you made some money, and can spare some, donate.

If not, maybe post a link and help her to raise money for her next campaign, which is to buy bullet proof vests for the police dogs in Washington D.C.

didnt you see Half Baked?? You get the same time as killing a cop!

GFED 08-15-2002 09:54 AM

Them dogs aren't very nice... I don't like the idea of them using em, but that's just my opinion. I think they should make robots or something besides using them dogs.

RATBOY 08-15-2002 09:57 AM

I think this idea rules. Sure dogs get shot. My dad is a cab driver and I am getting HIM a vest for X-mas. 350 bucks well spent.

ServerGenius 08-15-2002 09:57 AM

Hmm that silly vest doesn't make any sense...If you look at a dog
the most easy target is his head.....so a helmet would be more
apropriate.....if a dog attacks he will jump at you..head forward
back almost impossible to hit....chest would be easier...The only
way to shoot a dog would be if he stood next to you....which is
not very likely to happen...

Shit...I'll start collecting for bulletproof Dog Helmets !

Ya we should let all the cops out there get shot at instead. And when one of your family members gets kidnapped just tell them you don't want a dog tracking the scent.:BangBang:

It is the job of a police dog to take the bullet for the "human" officer they are assigned to...thereby saving a human life...

Vests for such loyal "partners" is a worthy cause

Most police dogs get hit in the shoulder or chest...

ServerGenius 08-15-2002 10:03 AM

There ya go....so a backvest is useless...Thank you!

What I can't figure out is how a police department can justify spending $20k for a dog and not throw in maybe an extra $1500 for a little kevlar to protect their (our) investment. That seems ignorant. Every police officer wears a vest. Why shouldn't the dogs?

tree 08-15-2002 10:07 AM

police dogs are an abuse of animals...drugs shouldnt even be illegal its a medical issue not a political issue. If a polcie dog gets shot...good...i would fuckin love to give one of those things an anti-freeze fillet! Think how many children will grow up without fathers because of those stupid dogs. fuck them

ControlThy 08-15-2002 10:07 AM

That is a good cause.

I believe if you check out such a vest and consider the anatomy of a canine... you will note that such "vest" covers the shoulders, and chest of a K9 officer... it would be pretty Ummm.. difficult to do this Without covering the back area as well..

unless you want to put Straps on it....

Mr Nice Guy 08-15-2002 10:10 AM

This seems like a nice cause, saving dogs, but really the reason cops want bulletproof vests for them is that is costs at least $250,000 to train one.

Mr Nice Guy 08-15-2002 10:11 AM

Did I mention I know the woman who invented dog bulletproof vests?

ServerGenius 08-15-2002 10:11 AM

If you check out the site and look at the pics you will see the vest
and notice that the straps are around his chest/belly and the vest
covers his very hard to target back.

Ok, lets go look at the pictures....
You will note due to the anatomy of a dog...that it is necessary to strap that vest on in some fashion...
However, you will also note, If you are looking that there are two seperate pieces that cover the bottom chest area and the abdomen of the dog.. these are large kevlar pieces that just happen to also have the straps on them as well to secure the vest in place...
My step dad is a member of the California Highway Patrol and has a canine partner.. that partner has saved his life on more than one occasion as well as the lives of others...
and Yes, he DOES wear a canine vest....

Now I have to go to work You all have a WONDERFUL Day!!
:thumbsup
