Ah, this was a great experiment, and a masterfully written article. One passage in particular managed to stir me a bit because it speaks volumes:
"There was no ethnic or demographic pattern to distinguish the people who stayed to watch Bell, or the ones who gave money, from that vast majority who hurried on past, unheeding. Whites, blacks and Asians, young and old, men and women, were represented in all three groups. But the behavior of one demographic remained absolutely consistent. Every single time a child walked past, he or she tried to stop and watch. And every single time, a parent scooted the kid away." Thanks for posting it. :thumbsup |

Interesting. Considering all the thoughts on self improvement, it really is amazing to look at this as people being so caught up in the mundane plodding of their lives that they miss what is most likely a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The reality is that most people are like that all the time and are day in and day out missing opportunities far more subtle than a world class violinist performing in front of them. |
