Google Adwords - Unacceptable Content

XXX
Milfs
Explicit

Are just some of the new words I have seen Google ban from Adwords:

Quote:

Unacceptable Content [?]
We've detected that your ad may contain words often associated with pornography. Google policy prohibits the advertisement of pornography unless it involves consenting adults. Related content is not permitted on the website or as ad text or keywords.
"words often associated with pornography" - WTF? Looks like old ads with these "pornography words" are grandfathered in, but new ads will not pass as acceptable content.

Anyone else seeing this? :helpme

I got my ads kicked off google for having "teen sex content" which I couldn't figure out why because I didn't think I had that.
After many e-mails to them I finally found out that because my url has the word "girls" in it which according to google is a synonym for teens I was violating their TOS.
I had to replace the word "girls" with "babes" and then I was ok.

Yet type in "girls gone wild" and guess who's ad is ok. The same guy who keeps getting in trouble for "allegedy" shooting underage girls.

Yeah, I also saw that... however these "pornography words" are new. I mean there is a major difference between "teens" and "milfs"... and "XXX" and "Explicit" are not even offensive words.

yeh but try to call him and ask if he is ok.

SinisterStudios 04-07-2007 03:43 PM

We got the same the other night, im trying to get in touch with my account rep to find out why the sudden change.

bdld 04-07-2007 04:11 PM

this is something new, i saw it after their maintenence upgrade the other day. "porn" is another banned word now. step by step they're tightening the noose.

Bossman 04-07-2007 04:35 PM

"Sexy" is also on the new banned pornography wordlist from google :censored

hardcoreblogger 04-07-2007 04:36 PM

yeah i noticed this too, they banned a shitload of words. asked my account rep, he didn't know what's going on...looks like you can more or less forget adult on adwords if they dont take this back

hardcoreblogger 04-07-2007 04:37 PM

and typical google that they keep the old ads running - wouldn't look good in their revenue stats if they turned it off all at once

GatorB 04-07-2007 04:43 PM

Funny I have not run into this. I smell BS.

Have you tried to make a new ad using any of the words listed in this thread?

XXX
Milfs
Explicit
Porn
Sexy

StarkReality 04-07-2007 05:01 PM

Let's be honest, the were many who pushed it too far and now we get the bill.

Trax 04-07-2007 05:02 PM

this is getting to a point where it becomes ridiculous
banning the milfs is the first step that will make you realize where this is all going

Add to the list teen, girl, boy, young, ass, cock and many others..

And the words that are not banned .. some of the prices are insane.. like $10 a click ... They are tightening the noose for sure. :disgust

If you have an ad that is converting with any of the banned words.. Do Not Touch It.. maybe you will get lucky and they wont catch you for a while :winkwink:

GatorB 04-07-2007 05:28 PM

Hopefully all the Chicken Litttles will drop out of adwords.

Are they new ads or old ones that have just not been caught yet? :upsidedow

bdld 04-08-2007 12:54 AM

current ads are fine. all of my campaigns are running fine as well. we're talking about new ads only.
words such as "cock, ass, fuck" etc were always banned, they have just recently expanded that to anything remotely pornographic-related.

livechat 04-08-2007 01:39 AM

The word Cams is in there as well

Bossman 04-08-2007 01:52 AM

Just to clarify this only effects new ads - not ads which are already in their system. Have not seen any current/old ads with these new "pornography words" getting banned yet.

Google can make all the rules they like (its their system), but I will agree with others that its not hard to spot the direction Google is headed. This latest round of banned words are just looking like it was made by a religious fruitcake.

Damn... "Cam" and "Cams" are banned, but "Webcam" and "Webcams" are still ok :helpme

grape 04-08-2007 04:33 AM

Seriously how do they ban the world milfs, they might as well drop all adult stuff.

Linkster 04-08-2007 05:06 AM

Have you tried changing the campaign settings to only advertise in NON-US countries - while I understand that its a shitload less traffic - Google usually starts a "censoring campaign" on AdWords with ads targetting the US - theyve done it since the beginning for some words but you could always get a trickle if you left out the US

HighSociety 04-08-2007 05:22 AM

I tried to add new keywords and had that problem. I still have the older ones working fine though

GatorB 04-08-2007 09:22 AM

IF Google is actually doing this crap then yahoo is going to get a shitload more business. Especially mine. I seriously doubt that Google wants to lose tens of millions of $$$$ they bring in because of porn.

I just tried on one of our campaigns, which is not targeted at the US, and it would not accept the new banned words.

These changes are new - I have not seen anything from Google yet regarding this. Their Editorial Guidelines are still showing the old guidelines - mainly these two:

Quote:

No Inappropriate Language

Your ad cannot contain offensive or inappropriate language.
Quote:

Non-Family Safe & Adult Sexual Content

After our AdWords Specialists categorize the ads, Google generally allows ads containing adult themes, such as explicit sexual content, provided that they meet the conditions for AdWords advertising.
However since they are now banning words like:

Cams
Explicit
Sexy
XXX

Then its a major change from the Editorial Guidelines they have online, since none of these are offensive, inappropriate or explicit.

Well "tehnically" explicit is in fact explicit if you get what I mean.

hmmm why do you defend them? do these changes make sense to you?

PSSuperstars 04-24-2007 12:12 PM

Google banned me.

"Teen porn concepts"

They said I used the word GIRL too much..

And it's a FULL ban... not a suspension...
I can't make any more accts.. or anything...
Because I used the word "girls" on my sites..

as in "phone sex girls"..

I'm super sad, disappointed...

Turboface 04-24-2007 06:51 PM

Some of you guys might be interested in conteXaclick. It's an advertising network that is set on a PPC auction model where you bid for placement ranking, just like AdWords. On the other side of the coin, conteXaclick allows webmasters to earn income by placing ad units on their websites, just like AdSense.

It's still in beta, but it's fully functional.

:thumbsup

Well you've known for months that the words TEEN and GIRLS aren't allowed and you continued to use them. I will say they are hypocritical because GIRLS Gone Wild is still allowed to advertise. I can see TEEN being more questionable than GIRLS because girls is such a generic term. I still refer to women I'm attracted to as girls even if they are my age and I'm 38. I think Google should be smart enough to know if you say "hot college girls" you aren't refering to little 12 year olds.

Clearly, as a publicly traded company there are trying to disassociate themselves with adult more and more. As it is a big revenue generator they have to phase it out as other areas of income pick up the slack.

Just give it time ... there will be no adult ads on Google.
:2 cents:

96ukssob 04-24-2007 10:20 PM

if you keep the landing page clean you should (95% of the time) not have any problems. A lot of words that I use get the "google slap" which sucks because they were performing really well.

IMO, its a totally unrealiable source of income. A year ago their "approval" system was a lot eaiser, now its getting more and more difficult. I still use them a lot for some adult sites, and will continue to until the put the ban on all adult terms.

If your having problems with your ads or keywords not running, hit me up. I do a LOT of biz with them and may be able to help you out

Walrus 04-25-2007 03:06 AM

Are all of you using AdWords for Mainstream too? I never had any success with AdWords. I only lost money.
