AliGbone 04-06-2007 03:02 PM

I don't knows that they going that low for the cheap bandwidth but yous gets what you pays for macker

Poppy 04-06-2007 03:05 PM

We can't do $8.50, but please contact me to discuss.

PowerCum 04-06-2007 03:21 PM

100 Mbit server for $700.
The downside is that it's in Europe and you don't get supper dupper tier 1 bw... but hey, you get what you pay for.
So far I have beaten your desired price by $1.5 :)

UniqueMovies 04-06-2007 03:29 PM

I am looking for a host that can match alphared. US hosting and Cogent BW.

I have used them in the past and they are good but I am interested in trying someone different.

UniqueMovies 04-06-2007 04:27 PM

Damn..

I guess alpahred is in a league of their own. :)

TondaB 04-06-2007 04:45 PM

Are you looking for a fully managed server at this price?

50 mps server for $500 not even yahoo could get bandwidth that cheap. If you get it, sorry but there will be a catch.

Your wrong.

I have paid $8.50/mbit with alphared in the past.

There is no secret really. Cogent BW is cheap.

Its cheap but not that cheap, and with a dedicated managed server too boot. Good luck but no one is going to be able to match that price, unless they are overselling the piss out of the bandwith (which most cheap hosts are)

They sell 1gigabit to 12 ppl @ 100mbit but thats only because not every single client will use the full 100mbit.

Sly 04-06-2007 07:52 PM

Curious... why are you leaving Alpha Red if the price is right?

I already left alphared because the project i was working on fell thru.

I started a new one and now I need hosting again. I figured I would try another host but now I know alphared has the best prices that can't be matched.

Actully.. i know a few providers that will go sub $10Mbps on 10GbE+ commits. BTN, Cogent,level3 just to name a few. Probably tiscali and global crossing.. OH and Nlayer i'm sure would too.

AR has 30Gbps in cogent commits. I'm pretty sure they are probably getting cogent for $6/Mbps. If you have that sort of weight to throw at one provider they will bend over for you.

UniqueMovies 04-06-2007 09:15 PM

Yep.

The more BW they buy and the less it costs them, the cheaper it is for us! :)

Ycaza 04-06-2007 10:08 PM

8.50/meg, thats a little too cheap for us, but happy to help if i can

Gaybucks 04-06-2007 10:11 PM

Alphared is dirt cheap and, surprisingly, our experience with their support is that it's superb.

They have gone above and beyond on more than one occasion, we've had no downtime (except for a hard drive that took a dump, which they quickly replaced), and we are very happy.

The sad thing is we've kept our main servers at ThePlanet for perceived (on our part) reliability reasons, which until about 6 months ago, was true, as they had an unmatched level of service and support. The past three weeks have convinced me that Planet's service is now totally in the crapper, never to return, so I suspect that Alpha Red will be seeing more of our business in the months to come.

UniqueMovies 04-07-2007 12:37 AM

Something tells me alphared is about to get many new clients because of this thread. :)

Huge props to xhop.com because they are the only ones to contact me and match alphared.

stickyfingerz 04-07-2007 12:44 AM

I agree.

xhop as far as I can tell is small.

easy its called overselling and they hope you don't use as much as you say you are.

Or they are a reseller

http://www.cidr-report.org/cgi-bin/as-report?as=AS32105
and
http://www.fixedorbit.com/AS/32/AS32105.htm

i'm not sure which one is more accurate but..

they do buy transit from some rather cheap providers.. HE is real cheap as well mzima is ok.. and the other 3 i have no idea about.

Bullshit, i personally know a user of 10gb's from level3 and they arent even close to that price, sorry but level3 is not that cheap even for huge commits.

Surprise surprise so do I. I'm sure you are aware market prices very where you are located. These guys happen to have pricing in Ashburn Equinix.

This one particular company is currently pushing 50Gbps last I heard.

Thanks for the troll.

dready 04-07-2007 08:20 AM

You might want to checkout LeaseWeb.

fris 04-07-2007 08:34 AM

alphared is trash

if you can put me in touch with someone who can offer $10/meg on 10 gigs from level3 ill pay ya a nice finders fee. I also have cages in Equinix and have lines from level3 and they told me they can do mid teens pricing on that level of commmit.

Makingcoin 04-07-2007 12:34 PM

I have had good experience with AlphaRed in the past. :)

i call bullshit. the best of the best and a good friend does 45 per mbit 8.50 is like well over sold.

Brad Mitchell 04-07-2007 07:04 PM

This thread is so comical I don't even know where to begin responding. If I took the time to write something just for GFY next week on global networks, pricing and hosting infrastructure costs would it fall entirely on deaf ears?

There is so much mis-information out there and wrong perceptions about virtually everything in the unmanaged and managed hosting space, I think it might be time.

Brad

Splum 04-07-2007 07:15 PM

alphared/orangefiber seems to have sorted histories on the web, just search for alphared on google you will see what I mean.

I would venture to say yes :1orglaugh DI don't understand how people risk all this time spent building there network just throw it was over subscribed bandwidth. If a site is slow for me I leave and usually don't come back, my time is to valuable to wait for a slow site and it's just frustrating.

And I doubt anyone here can get you realistically better pricing then Yahoo on bandwidth with your 50 mps server. Cogent, over selling, or not.

inabon 04-07-2007 09:55 PM

well that is why i called bullshit

They all learn the hard way. Hosting is the heart of all our business, why would your ever skimp on it? They all learn, otherwise the Techie Medias, MojoHosts, Nata Nets, Clickmans, ISPrimes wouldnt be in business.

Like the old saying goes, "You Get What You Pay For!!!!"

ramstein 04-08-2007 10:08 AM

Why not to ask to pay for $5/mbit?
